You should have received an email earlier today with important information about the upcoming AGM on Saturday 06 Dec at 9:30am in the KGC Clubhouse. There are some key issues that will shape the future of the Club being discussed and voted on, so please review the AGM documents and make the time to attend this meeting if possible. 9H Ladies

When we arrived for golf on Tuesday it was pouring with rain. It soon cleared and we played the Top Cat final and the other five played Stableford. Congratulations to Jane Campbell who is the 2025 Top Cat with nett 36. (Cheers Hilary)

Wednesday Club

21 members enjoyed balmy summer weather, wonderful course conditions and achieved some excellent stableford scores. 9 Prizes were awarded down to 34 pts. The top prize of wine was won by Patrick Cordue with 41 pts. Runner up was Terry McAlister with 40 pts (balls) after several weeks lay-off. Peter Alekema and Chris Pearce were 3rd & 4th respectively with 39 pts. Chris Pearce was NTP but paid the pig (!) and there were no Twos. Fergus McDougall and Perry Florance were welcomed back to Wednesday Club. Alex Lim and Saint Kennach won the raffle prizes. (Cheers Ian)

Wednesday Twilight

41 golfers turned up to play at Twilight this Wednesday. Conditions were fantastic, with a light southerly breeze to help some of us to the first green!

This week saw a very impressive podium line up. Taking out first place was Ryan Du Plessis on 23 stableford points, in second place our Division 2 Interclub Captain Dean Milne scored 21 points (that’s off a ‘2’ handicap), with Adrian Porter taking third place with an ‘effortless’ 20 points (off a ‘0’ handicap). Stars!!

Terry Bastion won the NTP and we had no 'two's this week. Adrian and Mark Cooney (Royal Wellington) both scored eagles on #9 (Adrian's second shot landed on the green, an absolute ‘gimmie’ putt away from the hole!)

Thanks once again to all our helpers, particularly our now ‘regular’ BBQers, David Eley and Eric McAuley,  and to Brigitte for a lovely salad. See you all next week for another evening of social/fun golf and dinner. (Cheers Gail)

Junior Coaching Programme

The Junior Coaching Programme is back this Sunday. Priority on the practice area (fairway and/or putting green) will be for programme participants between 12 - 3pm. Every second week, programme participants will be on the course. This is all loaded on the start sheet, so please consider this when planning your Sunday golf.

Possum Control Operation Terawhiti – Cyanide & Brodifacoum Use

The Club has been notified about the likely use of cyanide for a possum control operation which is being undertaken within the RPCP Terawhiti Operational area.

This operation is part of Greater Wellington’s Regional Predator Control Programme (RPCP) and is aimed at protecting our environment from possums, improving the natural biodiversity of the area and reducing threats from bovine tuberculosis to domestic stock.

The main methods of control proposed for the area includes the use of:

  • Encapsulated cyanide (Feratox) pellets in bait-stations or biodegradable blue bait-bags. Cyanide pellets are pea size, dyed green and mixed with prefeed bait.
  • Cyanide Paste (Cyanara50) in bait-stations or applied directly to ground. Cyanide paste is pea sized and dyed green.
  • Brodifacoum 50p cereal baits will be used in Bait stations.

Precautions:

Poison warning signs will be displayed at all main access points to the operational area and the following instructions should be adhered to:

  • Do not touch toxic baits, bait stations, or possum carcasses
  • Supervise children closely
  • Keep dogs under strict control and away from carcasses and bait.

General Safety Tips for Playing Golf

Now that the warmer drier weather has arrived and the course is getting busier, we must be more vigilant whilst playing. We've been made aware (anecdotally) of serveal near misses and had one HIT reported (ball glancing of a members head) which is cause for concern. A wayward tee shot is one thing (i.e. a miscue), hitting up on the group in front of you is another, and totally unacceptable! We all expect to enjoy playing in a safe environment, therefore we all have a responsibility to be aware of our surroundings and follow these standard safety protocols:

Category

Safety Tips

Course awareness

Yell "Fore!" if a ball is heading toward another person.
Wait for a safe distance before swinging, and don't hit until the group in front is out of range.
Stay out of the way of other players who are preparing to swing.
Yield to maintenance staff who have the right of way.

Equipment

Check your surroundings for people, trees, or other objects before swinging.
Maintain a minimum distance of three meters from others when taking practice swings.

Weather

Stop playing immediately if you hear thunder or see lightning. Leave metal clubs and carts behind and seek shelter.
Use sunscreen and wear a hat to protect your skin during long hours in the sun.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids throughout your round.

Physical

Warm up and stretch before playing to prevent injuries.
Learn proper swing technique from a qualified professional to avoid overuse injuries.
Bend your knees to pick up balls to protect your back.

Golf carts

Only licensed drivers should operate golf carts.
Stay on designated cart paths and drive slowly on hills and turns.
Remain seated with your arms and legs inside the cart while it is moving.
