GENERAL INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS

A to Z of KGC

CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations of events will be posted via the Karori Golf Club Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/karoriGolf/ or via email to those registered.

CAR PARKING

Members are asked to show consideration for others when parking. Please observe the 10KPH speed limit in the car park. The Committee Car Park is for Committee Members and the Manager only.

CART USE

Electric carts are welcome on the course. Members must abide by Club cart use rules at all times and adhere to any hole specific directions posted within the cart or on the course by greenkeepers. Occasionally, adverse course conditions mean use of carts is not allowed. Course status changes are regularly updated on our website: karorigolf.co.nz. The use and storage of private carts must be approved by the committee and once approved the user must comply with the committee's rules for the use of carts.

BAR

Our Club Licence allows the sale and supply of alcohol in the Clubhouse only for club members, affiliates and guests of club members. The bar is open when a Duty Bar Manager is present. As a requirement of our Licence, green fee players must retain their Green Fee ticket for bar service.

COACHING

If you're interested in golf lessons, Stephen Wood is our golf pro. Stephen has a distinguished golf pedigree and offers our members significantly discounted rates. You can check out his offering on Facebook and contact him on (021) 384424 or wood_golfpro@yahoo.co.nz

COURSE STATUS

The latest course status (for course closures, frost delays etc.) can be found on our website - karorigolf.co.nz. Please check this first to avoid a wasted drive out.

DIVOTS & PITCH MARKS

Our greenkeepers work hard to keep the course in the best condition possible throughout the year, but they need our help. We all must do our part to take care of and respect our course. We ask our members to do just a few simple things:

  • All members are expected to carry and use sand buckets
  • Replace your divots and/or fill with sand
  • Repair your pitch marks immediately - left unrepaired, even for just several minutes, the recovery time can be weeks instead of hours
  • Refrain from practicing on the course -- please use the practice area and make your divots linear
  • Place the flagstick down, do not drop it or stand leaning on it
  • If you see an unrepaired divot or pitch mark - please repair
  • If you see someone not complying with the above - have a polite word & let club staff know
DOGS

Dogs are welcome on our course, but owners need to always abide by our dog policy.

  • Dogs must always be under control of the owner
  • On the course dogs must be Kiwi Avoidance Trained (KAT) to be allowed off their lead. If a dog is not KAT trained, it must always be on the lead whilst on the course or practice area
  • In the Clubhouse, dogs are not allowed upstairs or in any of the offices, locker rooms or bathrooms. Dogs are allowed in the downstairs foyer and on the outside deck

A register of KAT trained dogs is kept in the shop. Please provide details to Clubhouse staff to allow your dog to roam freely.

DRESS STANDARD

A neat standard of dress is required at all times both on the course and in the Clubhouse. Footwear used on the course is NOT permitted in the Clubhouse unless clean and clear of grass and dirt. To avoid embarrassment and the possibility of being denied the use of the Club facilities, members are asked to ensure that acceptable standards are maintained.

DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES (DMD)

DMDs may be used at KGC, including in all tournaments provided that the device gives distance only.

EVENTS

Members are invited to follow the Karori Golf Club Facebook page to keep up to date with events and to come along and join in on any of our club activities. These are regularly outlined in our weekly newsletters -- the Captain's Corner and Friday Flash.

FOOTWEAR

For your own safety, suitable golf shoes are recommended on the course particularly during wet periods or when the water table is high and/or the course is saturated.

GOLF NZ APP

We recommend you download the Golf NZ App so you can make bookings, access scores, amend your profile, add friends and access other relevant golfing information.

ILLNESS & INJURY

Members recovering from a serious illness or injury may apply to have their membership placed on hold. Members need to e-mail the Membership Sub-Committee (membership@karorigolf.co.nz) and include evidence of the illness/injury date and likely rehabilitation period from a health professional (i.e. ACC form, doctors note, hospital admittance etc). The Membership Sub-Committee will consider all requests and respond accordingly.

LOCAL RULES

These are listed on the scorecard. Supplementary Local Rules will be recorded on the noticeboard in the downstairs Clubhouse foyer.

MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTION INVOICES

Members are reminded that we rely on prompt payment of membership invoices. Please check your invoice due date and ensure that this is met to help us manage our cashflow, pay staff, continue to maintain the course standard, and keep your memberships active.

  • Membership subscriptions will be automatically renewed unless the member advises otherwise. An invoice will be submitted to the member detailing the subscription renewal fee and the membership category. Members are required to advise the Club if they would like to change category at renewal, or if they would not like to renew.
  • Membership Fees can be paid annually as a single payment prior to commencement of a subscription, or by monthly instalments. Members are obliged to make all payments for the subscription year irrespective of any change in circumstances.
  • Members paying by monthly installments are required to pay an additional 10% 'installment fee' each year which covers the extra administration and cost of cash to the Club. The installment fee is paid at the start of the subscription year, along with the first installment. Thereafter payments are due monthly and can be paid by online via the Club website, direct debit, credit card (DotGolf surcharge applies), or in the Clubhouse.

If you have any queries on your membership, please address these to membership@karorigolf.co.nz

PACE OF PLAY

Maintaining an acceptable pace of play is critical to a golfer's enjoyment of the game. Slow play results in frustration, dissatisfaction, lost members lower green fee revenues and a poor reputation. There are simple ways to play more EFFICIENTLY so you don't have to rush your shots. Here's some 'Ready Golf' tips to help make your round more enjoyable:

  • Stay within one shot of the group in front of you. If you are not keeping pace with the players in front, let the players behind you play through.
  • Hit when ready and safe to do so (no honour system).
  • Continue putting until you hole out.
  • Tee off as soon as the group ahead is clear, the player who is ready should hit.
  • Hit a provisional ball if your first ball appears to be in trouble.
  • Searching for a ball? Play your ball first and THEN look, four player searches mean FOUR slow players, not one. Remember - the maximum time allowed for a search is THREE MINUTES.
  • Park carts & trundlers at the side/back of the green nearest the next tee and fill out your card before/after teeing off at the next hole.
  • No one over a 15 HCP should take on the blue tees.
  • No sharing of clubs -- each player must have their own set.
  • It is the duty of the lowest handicap player in the group to see that these guidelines are observed, and that slow play is avoided.
PRACTICE

PRACTICING IS NOT PERMITTED ON THE COURSE; please use the practice area.

RECIPROCAL CLUBS

Members are available to access the following reciprocal golf courses free of charge -- just contact the Club to make a tee booking:

  • Whangaparaoa Golf Club (North of Auckland)
  • Pukekohe Golf Club (South of Auckland)
  • Harewood Golf Club (Christchurch)
  • Taieri Lakes Golf Club (Dunedin)
  • Royal North Devon Golf Club (United Kingdom)
REPORT BEFORE PLAY

Please report to the Clubhouse before going onto the course. In consideration for your fellow members, it is a courtesy to be ready to tee off at least 10 minutes before your allotted start time.

STARTING

Unless otherwise directed by staff or Match Committee, all rounds of golf are to start at the first tee. During Summer months, the tee booking sheet allows members to book an evening round commencing from the 10th tee. This is a privilege only available to members.

STARTING SHEET

A starting sheet operates each day of the week, especially on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. All members eligible to play on those days are encouraged to use it. Members on the start sheet have priority over all other players. The preferred method of booking a tee time is to use the online Tee Booking system. Otherwise, you can ask the shop staff to do this for you. This is an excellent way for new members to meet people and get involved in Club activities.

SUNDAY CLUB DAYS
TROPHIES

Presented during the year or on Closing Day and are retained at the Club in the Club trophy cabinet.

VISITORS

Members are welcome to bring visitors as green fee players. It is the Member's responsibility to ensure that Green Fees are paid.

VISITORS -- BAR

To comply with licensing laws, Members are asked to ensure that their guests retain the portion of the green fee card that entitles them to Honorary Membership of the Club.
