By the end of this weekend we'll know our 2025 Men's Club Champions. Due to the course closure last weekend, the field has been pared back somewhat. Please do come out and support our finalists. The key messages for this week are:

  • Men's Club Champs Match Play finals this Sunday - please come out and support our finalists & witness some great golf (timings below).
  • Slippery Bridges - The Greenkeepers are in the process of fixing the slippery bridges. In the meantime, please walk along the center metal grating to avoid slipping/falling.
  • Accounts Admin Support - Might you be interested in supporting our Treasurer with the Club accounts?
  • Course Marshalling Call - We've had a great response to this (FIVE volunteers so far) - might you also be willing to help out?
  • New Member - Welcome to our newest member, Sol Moresi, who re-joined us as an 18U member this week. We trust you enjoy your golfing experiences with us.

Men's Club Champs Finals - this Sunday

The postponement from last week, and resulting player unavailabilities, has forced a number of changes to the Club Champs Finalists field. Please come along and support these matches this Sunday. Those playing 36 Holes will tee-off their 2nd 18H round around midday.

Finalists

  • 7:42am - Senior: Lance Dry v Deane Milne (36 Holes)
  • 7:49am - Intermediate: Matthew Roche v Jimmy Shearer (36 Holes)
  • 7:56am - Junior A: Phil Goodwin v Alistair Daman Willems (36 Holes)
  • 8:03am - Intermediate Plate: Gary Clarke v Jacob Troughton (18 Holes)

Wednesday Club

It was a beautiful day for the Par competition on Wednesday. A few regulars missing and no carts saw only 12 players participate. Bob Cavana was the only player to better his handicap and took a nice bottle of red for his +1 score. Patrick Cordue on -1 was second and gladly took home a bag of very nice chocolates. Nobody found the green on the 4th so nearest the pin jackpots to next week. Twos were also absent on the day. Martin Leung won the single cash raffle prize. The fine red wine raffle was drawn and Jeff Mason has a bottle of red waiting for him and there is a sleeve of Pro V1s for Dave Commans. The prize giving ended with the now traditional round of chocolates. (Cheers Patrick)

Rigarlsford Trophies - Sat 26 July

On Saturday 26 July we'll again host the Ken & Rose Rigarlsford Event. It's all about encouraging men and women members to meet and play together in a fun day, mixed draw competition. Men best stableford wins the "Ken" trophy and the women the "Rose" trophy. There's a $5 entry fee and great prizes to be won. Any donations of non-perishable items for raffles would be greatly appreciated - there's a drop off box in the Clubhouse.

No Carts this Weekend!

The course is closed to carts until at least Monday. For the foreseeable future, when cart use is allowed, they must stick to the fairways and avoid wet areas. If your ball is in the rough, please park on the fairway and walk to your ball. This will stop wet areas being damaged. Also, if you see reckless cart use please report it to the Clubhouse immediately.

Gripe Alert - Club Trundlers

It seems golfers (members, green fee players and even freeloaders!) are helping themselves to trundlers without paying. On a couple of occasions lately, Clubhouse staff have rented out clubs with a trundler, only to discover there's none available (a little awkward!). Please, if you wish to use a Club trundler, pay $5 in the shop before you play. There's now a sign on the wall under the deck where trundlers are stored. We hope the sign & this message sorts the issue and we don't need to resort to locking them up.

Interested in providing Accounts Administration support to the Treasurer?

We have someone willing to take on the Treasurer role, but they've asked for accounts administration support. Essentially, we're looking to split the role to lighten the load. The types of duties involved are:

  • Supplier invoice payments; preparing supplier invoices for payment in Xero - verifying and loading invoices into Xero and coding to appropriate GL account.
  • Preparing supplier invoice batches for payment.
  • Bank reconciliation; matching all bank account transactions to appropriate Xero account transactions.
  • Monthly stocktake of Bar and Shop stock.
  • Member invoice processing.
  • Other invoicing (sponsorship etc)

Not included (i.e. Treasurer tasks) are:

  • Month-end close and financial reporting
  • Tax compliance obligations (GST, PAYE)
  • Year end financial accounts
  • Overdue invoice / debt recovery
  • Cashflow forecasting

The workload is estimated as up to five hours per week, which ebbs and flows based on the season and Club activities. We're hoping there's a volunteer out there willing to help. If you'd like to assist the committee in this key role, kindly contact me at: president@karorigolf.co.nz. (Mark Peck)

Interested Course Marshalling?

Thanks to the FIVE absolute legends who have responded to the 'Marshalling Call', volunteering to help monitor the pace of play and general golf ettiquette. While Clubhouse staff do their best to ensure green fees are paid, everyone has a set of clubs, groups go off in fours, and golfers maintain an acceptable pace of play - it's difficult. Our Club, your Club, needs a few more volunteers to do starting and marshalling. Please let Club Captain Kevin Norquay (clubcaptain@karorigolf.co.nz) know if you can help - even if it's just a shift or two before/after a round or on a balmy summer evening.
