By the end of the weekend we'll know our 2025 Men's Club Champions. It'd be great to see members come along and support the finalists. Also, it was fantastic to see some of our junior members participating in the Paraparaumu GC Junior Open (Eagles) and the Wellington Age Grade Championships this week. Congratulations James for progressing onto the Matchplay rounds. The key messages for this week are:

  • Men's Club Champs Match Play finals this Sunday - please come out and support our finalists & witness some great golf (timings below).
  • Junior Success at the Wellington Champs - well done James!
  • Clubhouse Internet Restored - thanks Mark Reed.
  • Slippery Bridges - please walk along the center metal grating - we've been made aware of multiple slips & falls and many more near misses! TK will sort ASAP.
  • Club Treasurer - we're still looking for a replacement.
  • Course Marshalling - are you interested in helping us out?
  • New Member - Welcome to our newest member, Robert Templeton, who joined as a 9H member this week. We trust you enjoy your golfing experiences with us.

Wellington Junior Age Grade Champs

It was great to have three of our Juniors competing in the Wellington Junior Strokeplay Champs at Royal Wellington GC on Tuesday & Wednesday this week. James won the 16U Stableford Competition with 77 points (outstanding rounds of 77 & 74 ??) and was 1 of 16 who progressed onto the Matchplay 19U competition. Yesterday, James played a 0.6 handicapper and admirably took his match to the 18th, succumbing after missing a tricky final putt. It's fantastic to see our juniors entering and doing well on the regional stage ????????  (Image: Ben Willocks, Will Lyall & James Bigwood)

Wellington Men's Vets @ KGC

33 veterans tackled the Karori Golf Course on Monday, down from the original 45 due to carts not being allowed. They enjoyed calm, albeit cool, weather, followed by a hearty lunch back in the Clubhouse provided by Denise Marten and Karen Simcox. Despite underlying wetness in many areas of the course, the softness of the freshly mowed greens meant that there were good opportunities to score well for those who could target the pins. This was evidenced by the winner of Div 1, Rob Ashby from Mornington, playing off a 16, scoring 43 stableford points, followed by Karori's Alex Lim on 39. Two players with 36 points were 3rd and 4th while the 5th place getter had 35.

Div 2 was won by Karori's Mike Cox on 33 points, with 3 other players from Karori - Jono Wake, Martin Leung, and Bob Cavana also in the top 5. In addition, Mike Cox won NTP on the 4th.

WDVGA events are played usually every second Monday on a course in the greater Wgtn district and are open to any male club member aged 50 or more. The next event will be an age group tournament at Otaki on Monday July 21st July. Any KGC member wishing to join the WDVGA to play in their events should contact Jono Wake on 027-453-8227. (Cheers Jono)

9H Women

On Tuesday, a small but hardy group of ladies played the back 9 in lovely sunny conditions. We had a putting competition and this was won by Lindsey Pickering with 14 putts.  (Cheers Lindsey)

Wednesday Club

We got some good weather, but conditions were testing. No carts allowed so a turnout of 16 was pretty good; and very well done to the two regular cart users who walked the course. One of those, Christopher Pearce was a runaway winner with 41 points ahead of the other regular cart user Derek Fitzgibbon on 36 points. Vinh Phan was nearest the pin on the 4th (again), and there were a couple of twos: Derek on the 2nd and Christopher on the 6th. Matthew Everett won the raffle with Christopher second. (Cheers Patrick)

Rigarlsford Trophies - Sat 26 July

On Saturday 26 July we'll again host the Ken & Rose Rigarlsford Event. It's all about encouraging men and women members to meet and play together in a fun day, mixed draw competition. Men best stableford wins the "Ken" trophy and the women the "Rose" trophy. Any donations of non-perishable items for raffles would be greatly appreciated - there's a drop off box in the Clubhouse.

Internet Issues....

The Clubhouse internet router failed on Tuesday night – we think it's related to the power outage on Saturday. Most of the Clubhouse operating systems rely on internet (DotGolf, Lightspeed, Outlook etc.) so we've had a disrupted week. A huge thanks to committee member Mark Reed who has gone 'above and beyond' to restore internet access. He's sorted a temporary fix while we await the replacement next generation router to arrive from Starlink. We're back online thanks to Mark :-)

Interested in becoming our new Treasurer?

We are still looking for a Treasurer to replace Terry McAlister. I encourage anyone with Xero skills, financial skills and/or accountancy experience who would like to assist the committee in this key role, kindly contact me at: president@karorigolf.co.nz. (Mark Peck)

Interested Course Marshalling?

How much better would our Club be if we had a team monitoring pace of play and general golf ettiquette on busy days? While Clubhouse staff do their best to ensure green fees are paid, everyone has a set of clubs, groups go off in fours, and golfers maintain an acceptable pace of play - it's difficult. Our Club, your Club, needs a group of volunteers to do starting and marshalling (particularly on weekends). Please let Club Captain Kevin Norquay know if you can help - even if it's just a shift or two before/after a round.  He can be contacted at clubcaptain@karorigolf.co.nz
