Friday 7th October
News
Over recent weeks we have seen and had reports of people practicing on the golf course causing damage to both fairways and greens. Please dont do this we have a large practice area at the club and the new nets will be fully operational soon.
With the daylight saving upon us the commitee has taken the decison to close the pathway from the car park to the 18th green to discourage people from sneeking on to the course without paying and also to discourage members and others heading to the back nine without first checking with the club house staff.
SURVEY
We will be sending out a members survey on Monday 10th October. The committee is keen to build on the success of the last couple of years so it's critical we get our members' opinions.
As an incentive we have a number of prize packs to give away for those who complete the survey. Prize packs will include Titleist balls, footjoy gloves, beanies and caps. We also have 2 x 4 Complimentary rounds for your guests with a food and drink voucher.
For those under 18… you are the future of the club and we want your opinions.
If you complete the survey you will go into the draw to have next year's subscription for free !!! and you will also be in the draw to win one of the prize packs if you respond. !!!!
Please include your email when filling in the survey, this will be used in the random prize draw.
COURSE CLOSURE
The Course will be closed on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th October to allow Mexted Sports Turf to verti drain all our greens. The green staff will then sand and seed the greens over the following days so there will be some disruption to play during the rest of next week. Please follow the instructions of the green staff from Wednesday onwards. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via email and on our facebook page

OTHER NEWS
You might be sharing the greens with kiwi in the near future:
The project to return wild kiwi to Wellington has cleared its final technical hurdle with a Department of Conservation permit issued enabling up to 250 North Island brown kiwi to be transferred to the western hills of Wellington over the next 6-7 years.
This follows over four years of hard work and the support of farmers, 100+ landowners, iwi and locals. The Capital Kiwi Project has removed 1,000s of pests from 4,500 traps over 23,000 hectares.
The first release of 13 birds will be into Shepherd's Gully, Terawhiti Station in late November. As the kiwi roams that's not far from the fairways.
To help welcome them, they're asking for your help in terms of being aware that kiwi are home again: watching your speed on South Makara Rd and getting your dog avoidance trained.
The major farming landowners in the release area will undertake Kiwi Avoidance Training for their dogs, and the project is funding free sessions for dogs within the Makara community.
The first session, with 'dog whisperer' Willy Marsh will be on Sat 15th October at the Capital Kiwi depot, 29 South Makara Rd (the old Makara school site – look out for the kiwi footprint flag on the day...).
Contact jeff@capitalkiwi.co.nz to register for a time slot or 021 075 0301 for more details.
p.s. You might recognise KGC member Pete (and conservation dog See) from the photo – when they're not golfing they're helping look after kiwi.
