We're delighted to announce a Winter Special Membership Deal. Tell your friends - they wont get a better deal than this! Details below.

We have two new members to welcome to Karori Golf Club this week.Welcome Robert Gordon and Samuel Locker.  We hope you will enjoy your time at the club and make the most of all it offers.

It's goodbye from him, and it's goodbye from him.

This week two of our senior staff have resigned.

Thank you to Clayton Willocks who stepped in as the club's part-time manager after a rocky period of time when money constraints forced us to make economies; and then Isaac Henry who despite his young age has performed admirably as 2IC to Clayton.

Clayton can rightly be proud of his role leading to the much improved financial position of the club; the development of the Junior Program (which has resulted in our Club being represented at all three Junior Interclub levels); the engagement of Stephen Wood our golf professional (and coach/mentor to a number of our well performing juniors); the Miramar, Island Park & Green Acres reciprocal agreements; roll-out of the clubs new brand; the refreshment of our Sponsors group (all holes are now sponsored as well as the warm-up area and (soon) putting green); the online shop at Fully Promoted; installation of clubhouse heating; and so on. This is not to mention that membership has increased significantly as well, with us now having 530 members, an increase of 160 since he joined us.

He's going to be a hard act to follow.

Then to Isaac.

Division 2 golfer (he just gets better and better) and studying for a career in finance.  He could not turn down an opportunity to take up an internship at an investment bank.  Well done and congratulations Isaac.

Clayton and Isaac leaving will leave a big hole, but with good luck and a following breeze a new face will appear and continue the development of our unique club.

Clayton will leave at the end of May and Isaac later in June.

Gone, but not forgotten.  Both plan to remain members so I'm sure we'll continue to see them around in the future.

18 Hole Women

On Tuesday the 18 hole women played Stableford round for the Medley trophy. It was meant to be round 9 but so far due to appalling weather only 5 rounds have been played. Winner was Raewyn with Helga second on a countback from Denise. Course was in surprisingly good condition considering the previous storm, bonus being the creeks running clean having had nature clear them.

Sullivan Cup is progressing with Brigitte beating Gail 1 up and 2 more matches to be played this weekend.

9 Hole Women

It was lovely to be able to play on Tuesday after the appalling weather of last week and we all commented on how great the course looked.

We played a stableford and the winner was Chris Suggate on 18 points, 2nd Loreen Brehaut on 17 and 3rd Marion Thompson on 16.

Wednesday Competition

On Wednesday we had our first week of the newly revamped Wednesday competition with the focus on fun. The wine and chocolates are now the raffle prizes with just golf balls for the competition. Also, we have introduced a “memorable moments” prize (of extra chocolates) for the group with the best story of the day.

Terry McAlister won the Stableford competition from Jeff Mason on countback (35 points). Balls given down to 32 points. Mike Suggate was NTP (red/yellow tees) but nobody had a two. Ossie took a nice bottle of wine for winning the raffle with Jeff Mason taking a pouch of chocolates for second.

Four of the five groups had a “memorable moment” to share but the clear-cut winner were the group 1st off 8 who told us about Saint Kennach who sunk a 30-foot putt on the 4th and followed it up with another 30-foot putt on the 5th!

Winter Cart Use

The course was closed to cart this week, and TK will make a call about the weekend this afternoon. When it's been wet and cart use is allowed, please stick to the fairways and avoid wet areas. If your ball is in the rough, please park on the fairway and walk to your ball. This will stop wet areas being damaged. Also, if you see reckless cart use please report it to the Clubhouse immediately. Remember, the Course Status on our website (www.karorigolf.co.nz) has the latest information about course closures and cart use.

Clubhouse Surrounds Clean-up

The final stage to the storm repair/clean-up around the Clubhouse was completed this week. You're in for a special treat when you next visit the warm-up area. A huge thanks to our committed group of volunteers that sorted this for us.

Missing Dog "Locky"

One of our local Makara neighbors is looking for their beloved Jack Russell, Locky, who has been missing since Easter Sunday morning. Despite an extensive search of their property, the surrounding farm, and the gullies, no trace has been found. The family are asking members to keep a lookout while out on the course or the surrounding boundaries.

About Locky:

  • 8-year-old Jack Russell, very fit and lean.
  • White with brown markings (see photo attached).
  • Very smart and knows the Makara/Karori hills well.

How you can help:

If you are out on the fairways or near the rough and see, hear, or smell anything unusual—or if you have any information about a sighting—please reach out. The family isn't looking to place blame; they are simply desperate for answers and closure for their children. Please contact Judd Baker at 021 024 76764 with any information, no matter how small.
