Good morning all

Clocks go back this Sunday as we come to the end of the golden weather. Tee times will reflect the change over the next few weeks as we come to the end of Autumn and head to winter.

While the greens may be cored the Presidents vs Captains match is still going ahead.  Entries have been slow and we are hopeful for a rush of late interest to make this a successful event.  It is being played in the gap between inter club committments on Saturday 11 April.  Come along and get your entries in.

The main event for April is ANZAC Day and members are encouraged to get their entries in as soon as possible in order that we have accurate numbers for catering. Entries can be made through the website, and a sheet will be up in the downstairs foyer for members to add their names manually.

Next Tuesday there will be no golf due to course renovations.

The first round of the Sullivan Cup will be played on Sunday April 12. This is a matchplay competition open to all 18 hole players based on handicap and off the yellow tees. Rounds can be played on Sunday or Tuesday. It would be great to have all eligible members compete.

The 9 Hole Women played a qualifying round for their club championships.  The top four qualifiers are: Lindsay Pickering 54 gross, Christine Suggate 55 gross, Karen Simcox 57 gross, and Elizabeth Wagner 62 gross.

The next outing for the WGI 9 Hole Women's Inter Club will be on Thursday 9 April where they play Kapiti Golf Club at Waikanae.

Wednesday Competition

Sixteen golfers played in fine weather in a Stableford competition. Christopher Pearce was the winner (38 pts) ahead of Derek Fitzgibbon and Martin Leung  (both 37 pts). Balls down to 36 pts. Saint managed to find the green on the 4th, from the red/yellow tee. There were twos on the 13th (Victor and Derek). Terry McAlister won the raffle with Malcom McAlister second.

Several of the men played the yellow tees for the first time. There were mixed reviews and some complaints about losing so many shots. However, it should be noted that the winner played off the yellow tees, so the four shorter holes (relative to the red tees) made up for the shots he lost. Personally, I think that the yellow tees provide a great short course. There are 17 shortish holes (relative to par) and one long hole (the 14th which is a long par 4 being uphill and often into the wind). If the 14th was made a par 5 then there would be a perfectly balanced, short par 72 course. This would provide lots of fun for the long hitters and lots more greens in regulation for the shorter hitters. I think it would be perfect!

Wednesday Twilight

Our last Twilight event for the season was held on Wednesday, and the weather gods put on a perfect autumn evening for it!

It was a fun evening of 'strategic' golf, a Hells Pizza feast and prizes.
We had 7 teams competing in the Ambrose competition and 'the Turbos' (John Stubbe, Graeme Couper, Richard Reith and Brigitte Bonisch-Brednich) claimed victory, collecting prizes of wine and beer, golf balls and a beautiful handcrafted wooden pen (courtesy of Phil Apperley) each!
Winners for the season of Twilight: Golf Warehouse vouchers  were given out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in 3 categories: highest accumulated stableford points; best average score for those who played 10 rounds or more for over 20 handicappers; best average for under 20 handicappers. Our three winners, respectively, were John Subbe, Sam Gardner and Sam Julian,
Sam Gardner also won a sleeve of balls for the highest single score during the season (26pts).
Thanks to everyone who helped make Twilight such a great mid-week treat this season.
