Friday Flash 20 March 2026

Good morning all.

We are heading into a busy period for the golf club as we move in to our Autumn programme.

Obviously the main event will be Anzac Day and members are encouraged to get their entries in as soon as possible in order that we have accurate numbers for catering. Entries can be made through the website, and a sheet will be up in the downstairs foyer for members to add their names manually.

Deane is keen to revive the Captains' vs Presidents' match last played in 2010.  This will be played on the 11th of April and the winner will be determined by the team with the greater average stableford score.

There are two entry ports, one for the President and one for the Captain.  Choose your side and enter.

Entries close midday Friday 10th April - No late entries.

Enter by email only - clubcaptain@karorigolf.co.nz or president@karorigolf.co.nz

Templar Cup - Sunday 29th March: If you don't have a partner, please email myself - president@karorigolf.co.nz; or Denise - denise@karorigolf.co.nz, we will try our best to pair everyone up. This is mixed pairs (woman & man), 4BBB stableford. The Womens Club Captain Denise Marten & the Mens Club Captain are teaming up to take you all on.

Other key points/highlights to note for this week are:

Women

Tuesday granted us a fine day to play round 4 of our medley series. Rounds 1 and 2 were canceled but as there were 16 scheduled rounds it was not too disruptive.

It was a Stableford competition and won by Helga with 35 points. Second was Raewyn and third Sinyee.

Results from the previous round which was a par competition were Rose winner on -2 followed by Eun, who we were delighted to see  back after she spent the last year in Korea, and Helga third.

We welcomed Maree who has changed to an 18 hole member and noted the absence of Margaret who was in the South Island. The numbers are slowly growing which is most encouraging.

9 Hole Women IC

On 16 March the Karori Golf Club hosted the WGI 9 Hole Inter Club Round 5.

As it was held at Karori our women did not play but feedback is that all participants enjoyed our course on the day.

Our 9 Hole inter club team next plays on 26 March at Carterton Golf Course, taking on the women from Manor Park.

Best of luck to our women away at Carterton.

Wednesday Competition

Seventeen golfers played in blustery, albeit dry, conditions in a Stableford competition. Terry McAlister was the winner (37 pts) ahead of Matthew Everett (36 pts). Balls down to -31 pts. Nobody managed to find the green on the 4th, so both NTPs jackpot to next week. Matthew was the only two on the 13th. Saint Kennach won the raffle with Alex Lim second.

Also on Wednesday, Josie McCrone from Ryman's Malvina Major (golf cart sponsor) visited and left some information packs for members. Josie has a long standing connection with KGC, and shared a few stories of the club from back in the 80's & 90's. Her late husband, Tim McCrone, an avid golfer and loved our Club.

Wednesday Twilight

We had 17 golfers at Twilight this week, the penultimate round of the season!

On the podium this week: Wayne Cook took out first place with 21 stableford points, followed by John Stubbe on 19 points. Karen Simcox and Gail Kirkland coming third on 18 points.

Sam Julian won the NTP and combined that with a prize for the only 'two' this week, by chipping in for 'two' on #4

A big thanks this week to Phil Apperley on the BBQ, to Brigitte and Karen for the usual lovely salads and to Isaac in the kitchen.

Registration is open for the final Twilight Prize giving and Ambrose event night on 1 April. This is open to everyone who has participated in Twilight over the season. For the Ambrose comp the registration sheet at the clubhouse bar where you can enter a team of four, or pop your name on the sheet and fours will be created. Registrations will close on Tuesday 31 March.

Meantime see you all next week for the last competition evening of golf and dinner!

From TK

An arborist has completed the removal of the remaining hazardous hanging trees resulting from last month’s storm. These trees posed an ongoing safety risk to staff and course users, and their removal ensures the course is now in a safer condition. This work completes the major tree risk mitigation required following the storm event.

Adopt-A-Hole

Holes 1, 2, 11, and 16, 17 and 18 are now adopted. A board will be posted in the clubhouse for people to sign on. My apologies that the board is not up yet.  This will be attended to.  Don't be shy of signing on to help!

Every little bit helps.

Storm Damage Repaired

A huge thank you to Lee and Neil for their superb work repairing the storm damage to the old dairy shed. Power has been restored and the cinder block wall remediated so the danger of it toppling has been removed. It looks fantastic! An added advantage is that Stephen can now see the putting green from the landing. The next step is to remove the ivy and tidy up the surrounding area. Please keep clear of the area until this has been sorted.
