The year is off to a flying start! All of our senior Interclub teams got underway this week, and our Junior teams follow this weekend. For the first time in a very long time, we have a team in the premier regional junior competition - Watt Cup. Best of luck to all playing their first Interclub matches this weekend. Other key points/highlights to note for this week are:

  • Interclub @ KGC - we host Div 9 on Saturday morning and Junior 9-Hole on Sunday afternoon.
  • Cheap Firewood - selling at the GK Shed this Sunday between 2 - 4pm. Get in quick! Details below.
  • Film Crew Onsite - over the period 1 - 5 Feb we will have a film crew utilising space in our carpark. On 23 Feb they will also be sharing our Clubhouse. More detailed information below.
  • Cart Service - Wed 11 Feb (morning) our carts are being serviced by EZGO. Limited cart availability. Wed Club have booking priority.

Ged Boyle - Ray White - $1k

Ged Boyle from Ray White Real Estate Agency recently donated $1,000 to the club for listing and selling a property associated with a Club member. Ged handed the cheque to Club President, Mark Peck, during prize giving at last Sunday's 2026 Opening Day Event. Ged also sponsored the major prizes. Thanks Ged! We'd also like to thank the Pickle Jar and Cameron Harrison Butchery & Deli for providing prizes, and RJs Recruitment for loaning us their BBQ. It was an awesome way to start the year!

As always, we thank and acknowledge the support of the following valued sponsors and ask members to consider them in their purchasing decisions:

Women

Women's Opening Day did not go as planned due to inclement weather. Rain persisted all day so our cancelation decision was vindicated. Results from the Summer competitions are as follows:

  • It was a clean sweep for Denise Marten for the 18 hole Summer Cup, Summer Stableford and Summer Eclectics.
  • The same result for Lindsay Pickering for the equivalent 9 hole competitions.

We welcome Margaret Peck who has joined as an 18 hole player.

The next competition open to Sunday 18 hole players is LGU 1 with putting. This is played off the yellow tees, maximum handicap of 40.4 and a nett round so players cannot pick up. The event will be listed on the scorecard on February 8, play and enter your putts on the chart in the women's changing room. We have 22 x 18 hole women members, so it would be great to see participation from as many as possible. You are able to play at anytime on the Sunday with anyone who can mark your card. This would not disqualify you from the Sunday stableford competition you can play both at the same time.

Hoping to encourage everyone to take part when possible.

Cheers Denise
Womens Club Captain

9 Hole Women IC

9 Hole women played their first interclub match for the season at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club. The conditions were pretty good with a bit of wind and sun. We played Miramar and had a 2-2 draw. The course was tricky at times especially if we didn’t play straight but we had an enjoyable day. (Cheers Hilary)

Wednesday Club

What a super day for golf! Thirteen of us took part in the stableford competition, a reduced number as several of our regulars were competing in the Wellington Veterans Two Day Tournament but we warmly welcomed the return of two players, Hector Slade and Carey Clements. Despite the ideal conditions Hector was the only one to play to or under his handicap, winning the competition and a bottle of wine with 37 points. Derek Fitzgibbon was second with 34 points on countback from Chris Pearce. Derek was also able to persuade his ball to trickle onto the front of the 4th green to claim the nearest the pin prize but so far away he ended up having to make a double donation to the pig. There were no twos. Hector continued to capitalise on his day by winning the raffle then drew my number for second prize! (Cheers Chris P)

Wednesday Twilight

Twenty three golfers turned up for Twilight this week. Great conditions for golf again this week, but the scores told a different story. A smaller than usual winners circle this week saw Oli Wilson take out first place with 21 stableford points, closely followed by Sam Julian  with 20 points and Kenton Su (from Shandon) coming third on 19 points. Jeff Mason (welcome back Jeff!) won the NTP, with Henry Maurice getting 'two twos’ on holes #2 and #4 this week ????

A big thanks this week to David Eley on the BBQ, to Brigitte for another lovely salad, and, last but not least to Will Lyall for his help in the kitchen and presenting the prizes, thanks Will! See you all next week for another evening of social/fun golf and dinner (Cheers Gail)

Adopt-A-Hole

Select your own piece of the course to care for! Select a hole to keep clean and tidy. Tasks that will help include clearing debris away (pile in the trees to be collected), repair divots, maybe some weed eating.

Currently, Wayne Cook (our Treasurer), looks after hole number 11, I look after hole number 1. This is a job that can be day your leisure. Either take a hole on yourself, or a group of you can give it a go. All sand and seed is available from the club. Depending on capability, weed eaters and fuel may be available too.

Piles of debris left in an accessible place will be picked up by our staff or volunteers in their regular rounds. So come help out. A schedule of helpers will be posted on the notice board to acknowledge your contribution. Please email president@karorigolf.co.nz if you're interested in helping out. (Cheers Mark Peck)
