From the President
1. Annual General Meeting Report
41 members attended the 57th AGM of the Karori Golf Club in the Keith Gaskin Lounge. The meeting stood for a moments silence in memory of those who had passed away during the year.
The Annual Report and the statement of financial position (unreviewed) showed the club to be in good heart.
Retiring members from the committee were thanked for their service, as were all those who had volunteered during the year.
Elected to the committee for 2026 were the following:
- Officers: Mark Peck (President), Tane Cassidy (Vice President), Denise Marten (Club Captain, Women's), and Wayne Cook (Treasurer).
- Committee: Maree Goodall (nominated from the floor), Neil Hoskin, Jon Lyall, David McNaughtan, Deane Milne, Russell Turner.
- Club Captain: No nomination was received and the position is vacant.
AGM Notices of Motion
- Club Rules (Constitution): The draft rules for the Karori Golf Club as amended following consultation feedback, were considered and approved. I am meeting with George Blundell this Friday to get these filed with Internal Affairs.
- Hole Number 12: Discussion about hole number 12 ensued pursuant to a notice of motion to restore the bridge. This lead to a much wider discussion which could have carried on for a considerable time. It was resolved that the course committee would meet with club members (particularly our Women and Wednesday Club) to see what needed to be done to satisfy everyone's needs; and secondly that the course committee would share with all members its Course Development Plan by 30 March 2026.
- Sale of Section: This matter raised considerable discussion before the meeting agreed that the committee could sell the land alongside the green keepers shed through a real estate agent, provided the committee agree 'fair value' for the land is obtained; and secondly, in the case that the land sells, that the proceeds from the sale are to be invested in a fund with rules that clearly articulate the distribution of the proceeds. In other words, the money is not to be used for current accounts.
2. New Kit for Green Keepers
Members will see some new additions to the green keepers equipment from this week. We expect to take delivery of a new tractor this week and in the new year we expect to take delivery of an aerator.
Both sets of equipment will be of assistance to staff keeping the course in good condition. The aerator will pay itself off in a couple of years through being able to do our own coring saving several thousand dollars from having to use contractors for this work.
3. 2026 Calendar
With no Club Captain, the 2026 calendar will be delayed for a period of time. There will be a match committee meeting this week where progress will be considered. In the meantime, Denise has the women's events sorted out.
Already loaded for 2026 in the full events are the eleven monthly medals, the Sunday Club Days in each iteration, and Anzac Day.
Club Championships and trophy events will be discussed, but there is a need to provide for the diversity of our membership. Certainly more fun events need to be priortised to encourage playing together as a club more often, and which will be attractive across the range of age groups. More needs to be done for our nine hole members too. So the match committee has lots to discuss.
4. 2026 Subscription Fees
- Membership Fees: Full Membership: $1295; Full Introductory Membership $995; Full Mid Week $1125; 9 Hole Introductory $560; Full 9 Hole Membership $750; Under 40 Membership $990; 26 - 31 Full Membership $795; 19 -25 Full Membership $450; Junior 14 - 18 $200; Junior 13 and under $200.
- Trundler Storage: $80 per annum.
- Private Cart Storage: A large increase occurred last year and no increase has been levied this year.
Other Charges to be considered include Green Fees and other golfing related charges.
5. Current Events
- Miners Arms: (see the big trophy at the very top of the trophy cabinet), a pairs event played on a best ball stableford format across three rounds, one in December, January and February. There is plenty of room for more teams. Grab a mate and come have some fun. You may organise to play your game at any time. Make sure someone can sign your card, enter your score on the sheet in the downstairs foyer notice board.
- Women's Competitions: Denise has already loaded several eclectics and stableford competitions available to our women members. Click to enter when you print your card.
- Eclectic (everyone): this is played off the white tees and everyone may enter. Click to enter when you print your card. Ends at the end of February. Get the best gross score that you can and half handicap is deducted to get your final score. Make sure you have a marker every time you play this event.
6. Local Rules
These are going to need to be updated to take in to account the new penalty area on hole number 6. The tyres and the stone groyne are no longer outside the penalty area so there is no free drop. If you are not able to play a shot without damaging your club, your option will be to go to the drop zone to proceed.
Note also, placing through the green is in force for now. Lots of members are losing golf balls, and playing out of the rough is a chore. So for the summer fun period, placing is on everywhere except the penalty areas.
7. Opening Day - 25 Jan 2026
The KGC Opening Day will be held on 25 January 2026. It will be an ambrose with drawn teams, consisting two men, one woman and a junior golfer. The match committee will be considering an appropriate entry fee to fund an attractive prize pool.
Approaches will be made to Shirties, Matts Mob, our Women's groups, and our Junior members to encourage entry in the event. It would be nice to fill the field and enjoy a very different event.
8. Seasons Greetings
I want to wish you all the very best for the festive season. I'm looking forward to an exciting 2026 and I hope you all will enjoy your golf during the next year.
Stay safe and all the best to you and your families at this time.
Mark Peck
