Dear KGC Members,
The Karori Golf Club (KGC) committee is delighted to announce we will be trialing a reciprocity arrangement with Miramar Golf Club (MGC). From this Monday, 01 December 2025, Full Playing KGC members aged 26+ will have reciprocal rights to play MGC (i.e. can book and play without paying a green fee).
Many of you will be aware that MGC has successfully trialed a similar concept with Wainuiomata and Martinborough GC's over the past couple of years. KGC will be the fourth member of this pilot, which if all clubs agree, allows the possibility of forming a 'Federation of Sports Clubs' in the future.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q - Who does this reciprocal rights benefit extend to?
- A - Full Playing KGC members aged 26+ (i.e. this offer is not available to Full Playing KGC members under 26 years or non-Full Playing membership categories - Midweek, 9-Hole, Summer, Summer Tertiary etc.)
- Q - How will this benefit KGC?
- A - Essentially, this is the first step in potentially forming a 'Golfing Federation' in our region. More and more sports clubs are entering into federations to better utilise common resources (i.e. facilities, plant & machinery, staff etc.) and be more competitive in seeking grant funding (think 'The Hub' in Kilbirnie and 'Waiora Hub' Johnsonville). A minimum of four clubs are required to establish a federation.
- Q - How will it work?
- A - We have agreed a $50 (18 Hole) & $25 (9 Hole) guest green fee rate which goes both ways. At the end of each month there's a 'net off payment' made by the club with the most rounds played on the other's course.
- Q - What effect might this have on KGC tee times?
- A - We anticipate our experience will mirror Wainuiomata GC's experience, and more MGC members will play KGC than vice versa. That said, during busy weekend days, the KGC tee sheet is restricted for 'KGC member bookings only' until 8:30am on a Saturday and 9:30am on a Sunday. We reserve the right to extend these times if required.
- Q - Does this extend to practice facilities or golf events at MGC?
- A - No. Reciprocal rights do not extend to using MGC's practice facilities (unless warming up for a booked round), driving range (once open) or entering golfing events (i.e. Twilight, Interclub, Veterans etc.) KGC members must pay personally for these if a fee is charged.
- Q - How do I book a round at MGC?
- A - Phone the Pro Shop on (04) 801-7649.
- Q - How far in advance can I book a round at MGC?
- A - Three days.
- Q - Why doesn't the pilot extend to KGC members under 26 years of age or non-Full Playing members?
- A - MGC's experience with other clubs has been that these groups exploit the low membership joining fee, and use it as a 'backdoor way' of becoming a 'quasi' MGC member (i.e. sidestepping the MGC membership route but primarily playing golf at MGC). This serve's neither club's interests. This reciprocal arrangement is seen as an additional benefit to being Full Playing KGC member.
- Q - Can a KGC member aged under 26 or non-Full Playing member still play golf at MGC?
- A - Yes, you just need to pay a $20 green fee.
- Q - Can a KGC member use MGC's practice facilities?
- A - Yes, you just need to pay $20 at their pro shop.
- Q - Can a KGC member use MGC's 9H Pitch & Putt course and/or the driving range (once open)?
- A - Yes, you just need to pay standard rates. We hope to negotiate discounted rates if a federation is formed.
- Q - How long will the pilot last?
- A - We will be review in June 2026. The pilot will remain in place until either a federation is formed or our club's mutually decide to withdraw the reciprocity arrangement.
Kind regards
Mark Peck
