Wednesday Club

We had beautiful calm weather for the competition this Wednesday. Carts were not allowed and only 10 golfers participated in the Par competition. Ian Patience walked the back nine with us and reportedly enjoyed the experience. The winner was visitor and past member Luke Underwood with +2 who took the Barossa from Mike Cox (2 balls) on +1. Marcus Henry also scored +1 (1 ball). Patrick Cordue was nearest the pin on the 4th again but missed the putt! Martin Leung won the raffle again! Everyone had a free chocolate. Due to the low turnout these scores will not count towards the 'Race to October' seasonal contest. Considering the recent weather the course was in remarkable condition - a tribute to the great drainage work by TK, his team and volunteer helpers. (Cheers Ian)

Course Renovations - 8 & 9 Sep

Course renovations are taking place the week commencing 8 Sep, so all hands on deck would be welcome. If you're able to assist, please mark the 8th & 9th Sep in your diary and let Mark Peck (president@karorigolf.co.nz) know. Course renovations are weather dependant, so some flexibility around timings may be necessary.

Kiwi Avoidance Training

Only dogs that are Kiwi Avoidance Trained (KAT) are premitted off their lead on our course. Capital Kiwi have a KAT weekend scheduled for Sat Sep 6th and Sun Sep 7th. Location -  29 South Makara Rd, the old school/playcentre site beside the cemetery and tennis courts. You'll see some signage and flags out on the day.

The training takes around 15 - 20 mins per dog with Willy Marsh.  He'll walk you and the dog through a course of, kiwi props, scent, movement, and sound. By skillfully reading a dog's temperament and behaviors, Willy will use the tone, vibration, or pulse to train the dog to avoid those temptations.

Retesting for those already trained, will be done to see how they perform and won't take long.  You'll then be updated with a new certificate that will be valid for 12 - 24 months depending on how Willy judges their performance.

All you need to do is let Jeff know 021 0750301 or jeff@capitalkiwi.co.nz which day you'd like, and whether you have a preference for a morning or afternoon session.

Course Marshalling

Now that the days are drawing out, our team of wonderful course marshalls will be monitoring the course. The goal of course marshalling is to, in a non-confrontational and friendly way, ensure visitors pay green fees, members book in for their round, pace of play is adequate (no sharing of clubs, excessive time looking for lost balls etc.) and our course is taken care of (i.e. divots & pitch marks repaired, sand carried, etc). It’s our opportunity to encourage non-members to join and demonstrate we are a firm, fair & friendly course.

Please do not be offended if you are approached and asked for your membership number. We ask you always book a tee-time online before playing to help out our volunteer marshals as they perform this important work.
