We are well into winter now and the course is getting heavier and slower. TK has closed the course entirely today due greens being unplayable and no carts are allowed until at least Monday. School holidays start next week so we're hoping for some fine days so our juniors can get out and play some golf. The key messages for this week are:

  • Men's Club Champs Match Play quarter-finals this Sunday - good luck to all competing.
  • Frost Delays - please check the Club website for the latest course status to avoid a wasted trip out.
  • Carts must stick to fairways and avoid wet areas, see below for damage caused last Sunday.
  • There are several junior golf events over the school holidays, read below for details.

Women

9-Hole: We are grateful to the weather gods who have allowed play for the last three Tuesdays in the midst of winter. This week we played Medal 6 which is a nett competition where the winners go towards the end of year Top Cat Trophy playoff. Congratulations to Jane Campbell who won Medal 6 on a countback from Marion Thompson, both on a nett 34.

Frost Delays

In the event of a frost delay, the greenkeepers will immediately close the course and update the course status on the Club website (karorigolf.co.nz). They will indicate the likely length of the delay and when the course is expected to reopen. Bookings will then be systematically cancelled. Players with tee bookings will receive a message from DotGolf saying 'an administrator has cancelled your tee booking'. On cold/wet mornings, we ask all golfers to please check the course status and their NZ Golf App before leaving home to avoid a wasted trip out.

Winter Cart Use

The course is closed to carts until at least Monday. Only those who need carts to compete in the Club Champs will be allowed. For the foreseeable future, when cart use is allowed, they must stick to the fairways and avoid wet areas. If your ball is in the rough, please park on the fairway and walk to your ball. This will stop wet areas being damaged. Also, if you see reckless cart use please report it to the Clubhouse immediately. This picture shows damage we believe was caused on Sunday afternoon on the 18th. Lets all respect our course and call out bad behaviour.

Call for Volunteers

Weather permitting, volunteers will be out out again this Tuesday. If you have the time and the inclination, please email president@karorigolf.co.nz and he'll add you to the volunteer e-mail list to receive regular updates. Every little bit helps - even if its giving up a couple of hours to sand and seed tee boxes & fairways!

Treasurer Resignation

I have been advised by Terry McAlister that he has stepped down as Treasurer. He has agreed to assist with administrative tasks until a replacement is found. We are looking to fill the vacancy as soon as possible.

I encourage anyone with Xero skills, financial skills and/or accountancy experience who would like to assist the committee in this key role, kindly contact me at: president@karorigolf.co.nz.

Terry has been Treasurer for 18 months during a difficult time. I thank him for his efforts. I wish him and Ossie good golfing.

Mark Peck
President
