Manawatia a Matariki - celebrate, honor, and welcome Matariki! With Winter solstice tomorrow, it's fantastic to see the carpark full and all the carts booked. The Club could do with a few more winter weekends like this! The highlights this week are:

  • Men's Club Champs Match Play commences this Sunday - good luck to all competing
  • Four juniors have been accepted into the Wellington Golf Talent Development Programme
  • Greenkeepers have a new (old) spray unit.
  • The Clubhouse is warmer than ever been - so come in after your round & enjoy the cozy environment.

Wednesday Club

Finally, we had a Wednesday club competition. Twenty-one golfers set forth in great winter weather for a Par Competition. Ian Bates prevailed with +2 ahead of Matthew Everett on +1. Balls were given down to -1. Malcolm McAlister was nearest the pin on the 4th, but Ossie had the only two of the day on the 13th. The raffle was won by Ian Patience with Bob Cavana second. Chocolates were appreciated by those who did not feature in the golf prizes. (Cheers Patrick)

Congratulations to our Juniors

Congratulations to the following KGC Junior Interclub players who have been accepted into the Wellington Golf Talent Development Programme:

  • James Bigwood

  • Ben Willocks

  • Tane Mauchlen

  • Silas Campbell

The Tier 2 programme focuses on developing their games, lowering their handicap indexes, and participating in regional events. The programme offers coaching sessions, gamecraft modules, physical preparation, dietary sessions, entry to the Wellington Age Grade Champs, and participation at an end-of-year event. Congratulations boys - this is an outstanding result for the Club!

New Spray Unit

This month we managed to get a lot of spraying done thanks to our new walk behind sprayer built during a few of the recent rainy days. This sprayer has a 2m wide boom and attaches to our big tank sprayer. The unit minimizes damage as it only weighs roughly 40kg compared to 2000kg (tractor with 600l tank attached). Word on the street is the Greenkeepers are looking to patent the design :-)

Call for Volunteers

Weather permitting, volunteers will be back out this Tuesday. If you have the time and the inclination, please email president@karorigolf.co.nz and he'll add you to the volunteer e-mail list to receive regular updates. Every little bit helps - even if its giving up a couple of hours to sand and seed tee boxes & fairways!

Winter Cart Use

For the forseeable future, when cart use is allowed, they must stick to the fairways. If your ball is in the rough, please park on the fairway and walk to your ball. This will stop the wetter areas being damaged.
