This week has been another successful one. We hosted the regional Women's 9H Inter Club competition on Monday and two large groups (from Taranaki & the RNZAF) on Wednesday. We host a Titleist Club Fitting Session next Fri 16 May. There are only four time slots left so book now if your interested (details below).

We host Div 9 and the Champion Div 12 Inter Club teams tomorrow. Best of luck to all involved. A big shout out to our two new members this week:

  • Rita Nguyen (9H Intro)
  • Joe Saulbrey (Junior 18U)

Welcome! We hope you enjoy golfing with us.

Women

18H Women: On Tuesday we played for the Molly Turner Salver best stableford out of midweek and weekend players. Denise set the bar particularly low with 26. Any 18-Hole woman member playing any time on Sunday please tick the box for Molly Turner. That's all you have to do to be included. There are only two rounds and Sunday is the second one. I would be really embarrassed to win this trophy with such a low score. Looking forward to seeing the results. (Cheers Denise)

9H Women: On Tuesday the 9-Hole women played Medley 5, a par round in cloudy, brisk conditions.  The clear winner was Trish Titcombe on +4,  well done. Second, Susan Wright, with Hilary Newby and Chris Suggate third equal.  All on even par on count back. A most enjoyable day. (Cheers Julie).

Wednesday Club

20 members "blew" around the course in the fine but strong, gusty northerly conditions yesterday which was reflected in the scores. Fergus McLean was the winner with 32 Stableford Pts (wine prize) after a magnificent display of accurate distance putting. Terry McAlister was runner up with 31 pts (2 balls under protest from Ossie who wanted the chocolates!). The ball winners were Derek Fitzgibbon, Mike Suggate (another ball for NTP) and Marcus Henry with 30 pts, and Jim Waters 28 pts. The only two was Patrick Cordue-long range on the 4th (chocolates). The raffle was won by Martin Leung and Mark Peck. (Cheers Ian).

Sunday Junior Only Tee Times

Once again, two tee slots have been booked specifically for junior members at 11:33am & 11:40am this Sunday. All junior members are invited, and encouraged to turn-up and play together. This will initially be a 4-week trial and, if successful, will continue through Terms 2 and 3.

What To Do:

  • Book online for a tee time at either 11.33am or 11.40am. If these fill up we will open more times.
  • Turn up at least 10 minutes before your start time  to print out a score card.
  • Phone the Clubhouse or contact Stephen Wood (wood_golfpro@yahoo.co.nz  or 021 384424) with any questions.

From the Superintendent

Thanks to all the volunteers that turned up on Tuesday to put in another day of solid mahi. With the storm last week, we had a lot of debris lying around the course that needed to be picked up so we appreciate all your hard work. We also managed to cut all the rough this week thanks to the help of our volunteer mowers Ian Colligan and Mark Peck. We appreciate all the extra mahi you two put out every week as well.

Next week we will be spraying a herbicide on the greens and surrounds to kill off the broadleaf and hydrocotyle weeds. We will notify all members by putting a sign out on the first tee on the day we decide to spray, so please keep an eye out. If you do play on the day we spray, please give way to green staff and always wash your hands before you eat or when you finish your round. The tee blocks will also be widened and fertilized next week so we should see some improvements over the next month. (Cheers TK)

Volunteer News

A list of jobs will shortly be displayed on the white board outside the managers office which volunteers are invited to work through. There's jobs to suit everyone and they can be completed at a time that suits you. We just ask that you let TK know you are coming out via TK@karorigolf.co.nz.

Our regular Tuesday sessions will continue for a while yet. Please don't feel obligated to turn out every week. Details for the next working bee are:

  • Date: Tue next week
  • Timings: 9am at the Clubhouse
  • Dress: Old clothes, sturdy footwear & gloves (if you have them)
  • Bring: Sunscreen & water bottle
  • Lunch: Provided by the Club

KGC Branded Merchandise

Look out for new KGC branded merchandise in the Clubhouse. Titleist caps, Women's visors and golf towels have arrived, and FootJoy polo shirts and magnetic ball markers & clips are on their way. We hope these prove popular with members and visitors alike.

The club offers very competitive rates on all golf balls and merchandise. Golfers from other clubs often ask why our prices are so low. It's because we're happy to sacrifice some profit margin to look after our members. Please support us first.
