Club Report

Good morning Golfers

It was a brilliant day yesterday for the Crofton Downs Mitre 10 Easter Monday Ambrose event.

25 teams had registered and two more just turned up on the day.  We managed to fit everyone into the field and remarkably the time to complete the golf was not much more in most cases than four hours.

It was very pleasing to see the large number of affiliated visitors coming out to enjoy our course.  The biggest applause of the day was reserved for TK and his team for the condition of the course.

As a fundraiser to defray the costs of the recent drainage work it was a success.  Entry fees alone would have amounted to the best part of $3500, and most of the prizes were donated.

Hopefully there may be some spinoff to us in terms of a few more new members.

At the time of writing this report there are no photos available.

This week we take a big step on the way to rebuilding our youth/junior programs.  On Sunday the 7th of April there are four tee times booked (from 12.30pm) for our younger members (henceforth to be called "futures") to use for their own devices.

At the conclusion the club will shout our "futures" players a pottle of chips and a drink while they enjoy the clubhouse and debrief.

There will be cards which can be printed off for their use so they can compare how they went when they get back to the clubhouse (this competition is for "futures" players only).

We are chasing up Wellington Golf to get the short course established.

I do not intend to put in an extensive report today.  I'll follow up later in the week.

ANZAC Day

Registrations are open for this event on Thursday 25 April.

Entries will close on Tuesday 23 April in order that the breakfast can be catered.

Breakfast will be available from 7am (ish) with the commemoration at 8am prior to the 8.30 multi tee start.

Charge for the day is $20 to cover Breakfast and prizes.

There is the traditional RSA vs Karori match (please let us know on the day at registration whether you are playing for the RSA or the club) and Karori Members will be playing for the Fraser Smith Trophy.

Get your entries in as soon as possible, and why not invite any affiliated visitors you may associate with to come and join us.

Those who were at the clubhouse yesterday know the buzz of a full crowd so let's pack it out again.

Course Renovations

Make sure you enjoy the course this week as from Monday 8 April the second stage of the course renovations will commence with the coring of the greens, also the surrounds and tee blocks.

I have been a member here for a while now and I cannot remember the last time the surrounds and tee blocks were cored.  Our tee blocks certainly need some work and a tidy up of the surrounds must improve the playing surface too.

You will be aware that while the renovations are progessing two things will happen; first, there will be times when parts of the course are closed for repair, and secondly for a few weeks following the work the playing surface will be a bit bobbly and slow.

This is short term pain for the long term gain.

Please respect any advice notices and give way to greenstaff and volunteers at all times.

A volunteers call will be made early next week.

WGI Inter Club - Round 7

This round Division 2 are at home for an important match against Boulcott; Division 5 are away for an equally important match at Carterton; Division 9 are at home to Royal Wellington; and the Hillbillies (Division 12 - Still Norkless) are away to Judgeford.

Good luck to all our teams this round.

At the same time our non inter club golfers are playing round 7 of the Autumn Cup.  The results are very tight so it's anyone trophy.

Womens 9 Hole Inter Club have their next match against Boulcotts farm on Thursday the 11th of April.  They are sitting on eight points (having had their bye) so they are in a good place right now.  We wish them well.

And that's all from me.

I'll have more to say later in the week.

Enjoy the good course conditions for the remainder of the week.
