Captain's Corner
Club Report

Good evening golfers
It's always good to be home.
I had some feedback that the Captain's Corner is too long, so lets try a shorter version.
1. WGI Inter Club
Round 6 of Inter Club concluded on Saturday.
Division 2 had a 9 -6 home win over a strong Te Marua team with some outstanding results.
Division 5 had a harder time of it losing 6 - 9 at home to Boulcott Farm.  Some very close results of which Karori were on the losing end.  In no way could the effort be faulted and as Russell tells me he has had 20 different players for his six matches so far.  That seems to be the curse of the second team.
Division 9 were away to Boulcott Farm and secured 3 points in a tough assignment.  Of note, Gus Tulloch (yr 13 at school) played number 1 for Div 9.  While he didn't prevail on this occasion he has the bug and will play whenever we need him.  I've got a feeling Gus, you will be required regularly.
Finally, after many trials and tribulations Division 12 (The Hillbillies) won at home against run away front runners Titahi 10 - 5.
Our two women members of the team Fiona Kearns and Gail Kirkwood won their matches well, while 14 yr old Ben Willocks won his match by paring the 18th hole securing both his individual match and the team ball.
Very exciting to see our younger members stepping up.  Big up to both Gus and Ben for answering the call when our teams were short.
2. Autumn Cup
After round 6 of the Autumn Cup the leader is Jonty Du Toit (18) from Chris Pearce (17).  Several other players are within striking distance so with four rounds to go its anyone trophy.
We'll see what happens on the 6th of April.
3. Sunday Golf
Sunday Club Day: Results for 24 March: Thomas Milicich 46 points, from Ossie Santos and Brigitte Boenisch-Brednich 41, and Boyd Kenna 40.
Accumulative standings after 11 rounds: Phil Hartley leads on 312 from Matthew Roche and Gail Kirkland who are neck and neck.  The top 10 are all within striking distance and the dark horse with several fewer rounds and room to improve is Garth Mickell.
I'll update the standings from time to time but its looking very interesting this season.
Sullivan Cup
None of our women entered the Sullivan Cup but as there are two rounds remaining there is still time for some competition here.
The top three after 86 rounds are: 1. Mark Peck 373, 2. Hector Slade 348, and Tim Richards 322.
A long way to go yet with hundreds of rounds available for people to complete the 10 qualifying rounds they need to make it to the end of year "Shootout".
Last years winner was Kevin Norquay so get your entries in and start playing your way into the top 19 horses.
4. Youth/Juniors
As reported in a special Captain's Corner StopPress last week good progress is being made.
Great to see two of our younger players play their first inter club matches.
Clayton is looking to get all our youngsters on to a WhatsApp for ease of communication and to enable chat to happen among this group.  From Sunday 7 April special tee times have been reserved from 12.36pm for our younger members to meet and have a game of golf.  The competition has been set up to cover all the variations so should provide some interesting banter in the clubrooms afterwards.  We are very hopeful to have a short course rated for our youngest golfers to use by the 7th.  Keep an eye out and an announcement will be made as soon as this work is done.
Maurice Munro will be looking to getting coaching back up for a new batch of young members.  More on this very soon.
