Message from the President – Mike Suggate:

Mike would like to thank the members for their generosity in regards to the donations towards the new Greens Mower. This was also helped by the raffle that was run at the weekend which raised another $463.00. Many thanks to Gail Kirkland for all her hard work running the raffle.

Any further donations would be greatly appreciated.

New Green Fee Category, Refer a Friend, Monday/Thursday Special - Feedback:

Thank you to all the members who have given me feedback in regards to these new initiatives. It has been met with great positivity.

And if yesterday was anything to go by, we are certainly on the right track. Last week we had 1 green fee player on the Thursday (weather was good). Yesterday we had 20 green fee players who all knew about the ‘special’ through social media and our website.

As members, you can play your part too by telling friends and family. Don’t forget to bring them out to play a round with you for the guest green fee of $20 for 18 holes and $15 for 9 holes.

Thanks for your ongoing support.

Weekly Update from Green Staff:

This week we were able to put out the soil conditioners to the back 9 but we ran short of time due to morning frosts, which cut our spray times in half. We will continue with the front 9 next week.

As you can probably see, the gardens in the carpark are looking a bit bare at the moment, but please don’t stress out. We are re-landscaping the gardens and we will have them planted by the end of next week weather permitting. The previous trees and shrub were overgrown for the size of the garden beds causing slime and moss to form on the car park pavement. We have also gained back 3 carparks by taking out the overgrown shrubs.

We have also been cutting and rolling the greens more frequently which will increase the speed of the greens. When TK first arrived to Karori Golf Club, the greens were reading at 6.9 on the stimp meter, where the recommended speed is around 10. We are currently sitting at 8.9 and will get closer to 10 once the weather dries out and we get more growth on the greens in spring.

"Piaf: The Legend" Kapiti Tickets Discount for Members of Karori Golf Club:

We received an email from Mandy Meadows who is a performer and creator of the show "Piaf - The Legend" – featuring the timeless songs and incredible story of Edith Piaf (No Regrets, La Vie En Rose etc). This takes place at the Southward Theatre, Paraparaumu on Sunday 3rd September.

Mandy is offering members of the Karori GC a discount of $5 when you buy tickets. Use the code LITTLESPARROW which can be applied at ‘checkout’ when purchasing tickets.

(Garth England presents The Memorial Trohpy to Jane Campbell, this year's winner.)

On Tuesday 10 hearty golfers competed for our Memorial Day Trophy, a rather elegant trophy in remembrance of those members who have died recently. We were fortunate to have Garth England once again come out to present the trophy and stay for lunch. Thank you Marie for being the driver.

Congratulations to Jane Campbell  who won the trophy with 17 stablefords, followed closely by Trish Titcombe on 16 stablefords.

Wednesday Club:

Twenty golfers played a par competition in great weather on fast greens. We had four irregulars with us (who will hopefully become regulars): David Eyre, David Comans, David Petersen, and Ciaran O’Kelly. Ossie was the clear winner on +1 from David Eyre who was the best of four players on -1. Martin was nearest the pin and sank the putt. Patrick also had a two (on the 13th).

There was a good uptake on the two wine raffles with 17 of the 32 tickets sold. With a similar uptake we will likely draw both raffles next week.

Booking a Tee Slot: (Ongoing request)

Thank you to all those that are booking and coming into the clubhouse (when its open) to check in.

Please can I ask that you ALL book a tee slot online or by phoning the Club on (04)476-733 or emailing the club on clubhouse@karorigolf.co.nz . I appreciate that at times when you look online, there are a lot of free tee slots, so you think there is no need to book. However, the booking system serves as a way of knowing how many people are playing on the course, who is on the course which is important should there be an accident or event and we need to account for everyone.  Thank you for your co-operation.
