New Initiatives – with Immediate effect:

New Green Fee Category, Refer a Friend, Monday/Thursday Special:

I have been looking at ways to promote the club and bring in more revenue, encourage people to come and play, as well as support the members. I have listened to lots of members who have great ideas and I believe the 3 new initiatives I have created will go some way to doing just that.

  • New Green Fee Category – Karori GC Members’ Guest. This is to apply on any day. If you bring a guest with you, then they will get a reduced green fee. 18 Holes is $20 and 9 Holes is $15.
  • Refer a Friend – Introduce a friend or family member to a new Karori Golf Club membership and receive 2 months free membership. This will apply to all new memberships to encourage young people and more ladies to the club. The 2 months will be added to the referring members’ end date. Just imagine if you referred 6 new members that joined - your next years' membership could be free!!
  • Monday / Thursday Specials – Play 18 Holes for $20 and 9 Holes for $15. Previously this was a standard $30. However, when compared to other clubs in the area, it wasn’t really a special. So hopefully the new price will entice people to make Karori Golf Club their first choice when wanting to play on a Monday or Thursday which are our quietest days.

I am happy to receive feedback. Hopefully you will all see the benefits in these new initiatives. Also thanks to Adrian Porter who has updated our website with the new initiatives.

Advanced Notice of Course Work:

Next week we are looking at applying a few soil conditioners to help improve the greens. We have a soil penetrant (to help accelerate the soil movement from the surface), a liquid nitrogen (delivering easily recognised nutrient forms to the plant, for easy absorption by the foliage and the roots), a liquid iron (helps green up the plant) and a fungicide (for the control of selected diseases) to help improve the health of the greens. If the weather stays in our favour, I will also spray for the control of the toad rush on the greens.

A Big Thank You to our Ladies:

On Tuesday, the clubhouse was without power all day. However, our amazing 9 Hole and 18 Hole ladies who played, were well prepared. They all brought cash as the till was down and they were happy with having sandwiches.

Thanks to Jim Waters, we had the use of a stove kettle so we were able to boil water on the BBQ.

And also a big thank you to Chris Suggate who brought some lovely homemade muffins that the ladies enjoyed.

Unfortunately the power was not restored until the following afternoon which did hinder some of the Wednesday Club that turned up for a cuppa. Thanks for your understanding though, it was very much appreciated.

Cheers to JayJay:

Here’s a picture of JayJay with all the golf balls he has collected on the golf course. He kindly donated these back to the club where they are being sold as 'experienced golf balls' with all the proceeds from those sales going towards the new Greens Mower. Thank you JayJay for your contribution.

WestWood Ho Final:

Congratulations to Gail Kirkland and Grant Pollard who will battle it out in the final on Sunday. Tee off is at 10:02.

We hope the weather holds out and play well.

9-hole Midweek Ladies Report:

It is with great sadness that we are saying goodbye to Ingrid Rampton who was originally an 18 hole member contributing to success for their interclub teams, and in latter years played with the 9 hole members. We were all in awe of her elegant golf swing and remember her especially for her warm personality.

So sad to be saying goodbye to another Karori Golf Club member.

Competition news

Eleven very cheerful golfers took part in our Tuesday competition, Bingle Bangle Bungle.  As it’s very much a fun competition, those with the most tactical approach may have done the best? Loreen Brehaut was a clear winner with four players on the next best score. It was fantastic to have a decent day and for our golfers to be able to stay for lunch and enjoy loud chat afterwards, even though the power was off.  Thanks to Robyn and staff we managed to have a good time.

Wednesday Club:

Not much golf was played on Wednesday with the course only reopening at 09:20 due to flooded greens. Only three of us played 8 holes before the rain came.

The two wine raffles are live, but they have very boring names at the moment: “Medium quality wine raffle” and “Good quality wine raffle”. I am sure that someone can think of some good names for the raffles – please let me know your suggestions!

Booking a Tee Slot: (Ongoing request)

Thank you to all those that are booking and coming into the clubhouse (when its open) to check in.

Please can I ask that you ALL book a tee slot online or by phoning the Club on (04)476-733 or emailing the club on . I appreciate that at times when you look online, there are a lot of free tee slots, so you think there is no need to book. However, the booking system serves as a way of knowing how many people are playing on the course, who is on the course which is important should there be an accident or event and we need to account for everyone.  Thank you for your co-operation.
