Volunteer Divot Party Day:

alt textalt text

This finally took place on Thursday 15th June with some 14 amazing volunteers taking to the fairways at just after 9:15 am. They worked like trojens, filling in many divots from tee to greens. It was an thought that an estimated that around several hundred green buckets of sand were used to complete the tasks.

A big thank you to all the volunteers – it is very much appreciated. And thanks to William McNaughton for making sure we had enough sand at all times.

From the Course:

A better week weather wise which has allowed the greens staff to get out and mow most of the course.

We have had light frosts for a couple of mornings which means there is a delay to cutting the greens. If this happens, please be aware that you may come across greens staff mowing the greens later in the day. With ear protectors on and the sound of the mower, they may not always notice golfers waiting. Please wait until the green staff have acknowledged you and moved aside before playing your shot.

Frost Delays:

If the greens staff feel that the course is unplayable due to frost, then there will be a delay in opening the course. The Course Status on the website will be updated with state of play and delay to opening the course due to frost.

We will also have a member of staff at the 1st hole if this does happen to ensure no-one plays until the frost is gone. The reason for this is if we walk on frosted greens, it can damage them. If you are booked early and there is a delay to frost, you will need to book a later time. Unfortunately, we cannot push back tee times (especially at weekends)

Please ensure you are checking our website for the course status or ring the clubhouse on (04) 476 7337 prior to coming out to ensure the course is open.

Divots on Greens:

These pictures were taken early on Tuesday morning on the 4th and 14th greens. Large divots were taken out of both greens. This is unacceptable behaviour. If your ball lands on a green on a hole you are not playing, then you must lift and place it to the nearest point of relief off the green and play the ball. Under no circumstances are you to play from the green.

A lot of care and attention is going into our greens at the moment and to see something like this is heartbreaking to the staff that are trying to do their best.

Upcoming Events:

Saturday 3rd June:

Shootouts for 18-hole Mens and Ladies

Shootout for 9 Hole Ladies

RESULTS FOR THE WEEK:

9-hole Midweek Ladies Report:

Congratulations to Lindsey Pickering who won the first 9 Hole competition of this season, the Matchplay competition, against Loreen Brehaut. By all accounts it was a close game, going to an extra hole.

In the other competition, Medal 5, Chris Suggate won on a nett 35 with Jane Campbell runner up on a nett 37.

Thank you to the 7 women golfers, 9 and 18 hole members, who helped with the volunteer day today.  It was a massive endeavour from everybody involved. In groups of up to five we filled in many (too many?) divots on approximately 6 holes each. Luckily we were rewarded with a barbeque lunch.  Thanks to Robyn for all the organisation.

Wednesday Club:

What a momentous day. Not only did 12 Wed Club members enjoy great conditions but we were able to celebrate the Wedding of Marcosa Santos ( Ossie)and Terry McAlister which took place last weekend. Many thanks Terry and Ossie for the drinks shout after the round. Wednesday Club also donated a bottle of wine towards their celebration or their cellar.

Marriage must be good for golf as Terry won the competition and another bottle of wine with a par round with +4, and Ossie was runner-up with -2 !! and took the balls.

Balls were also awarded to John Timperley , Luke underwood and Marcus henry. John also scored another ball for Nearest the Pin but paid the pig after he missed the Putt. Mike Cox won the race for most Golf and Ian Bates and Patrick Codue were succesful in the raffle.

All the very best to Ossie & Terry in their new life together ????????????????
