Matt’s Message: (Greenkeeper’s memo)

What a downpour we have had this week. Things are really soggy and wet and members are reminded to avoid the very wet areas on the course particularly around the edges of the green (surrounds). Take care on the banks.

Thank goodness the weather improved for Wednesday. Players and members are reminded any tree branches down are hazardous areas and must be treated at GUR

Karori Golf Club Covid-19 Vaccination Policy from Friday 3 December

The club committee has met to develop a club policy to apply under the “Traffic Light” Covid management system that will apply nationally from 3 December. The policy adopted is that being implemented by other regional clubs.

The Committee has resolved that a “no jab no play/enter” rule will apply from Friday the 3rd of December. This means that all members and visitors must be double vaccinated by that date to enjoy the use of club facilities. All clubrooms’ staff will also need to be fully vaccinated.

We believe this is in the best interests of members and staff, and is essential in ensuring both compliance with Government policy and the health and safety of all. This policy will both reduce the risks associated withCovid-19 and ensure that the Club can operate with fewer restrictions than would be the case if we didn’t adopt such a rule.

From that date members and visitors must present proof of double vaccination to enter the clubrooms or play on the course. - If proof of vaccination cannot be provided then the members and guests will be asked to leave the premises until proof of vaccination is presented.

WEDNESDAY CLUB RESULTS

There was great weather on Wednesday which was enjoyed by 24 golfers. The Stableford competition was won by Jim Waters (39) from Martin (37 on count back) with balls down to 35. Graeme Crocker’s great run of form came to an end with a golf ball for the wrong reason. No twos on the day. Patrick was nearest the pin and paid the pig. JT won the raffle, with Mike Cox second, and Terry McAlister third.

Annual prizes were awarded for the three competitions:

Stableford trophy

Michael Cox

Par trophy

Patrick Cordue

Stuart Cathie cup (combined)

Terry McAlister

Vin Mitchener Cup (stableford 75+)

Chris Pearce

Motor Distributors cup (par 75+)

Gerd Warnke

Mel Cade cup (combined 75+)

Ian Bates

New World gift baskets were presented to Hector and Debbie to thank them for all their help over the last year. Gift baskets were also bought for the other staff members and they should be getting them sometime this week.

The pig has confided to the organisers that he has put on too much weight over the last couple of years. He has agreed to a radical weight loss programme. Surgery will be performed next Wednesday (15 December) and the coins that he has gobbled will be removed and counted. Wednesday Club regulars and those who play next Wednesday Club can have a guess at the value of the coins. The person with the nearest guess will receive a New World gift basket of chocolates, sweets, and coffee. In the event of a tie, a coin toss will decide the winner.

Wednesday club regulars who cannot be there next Wednesday, please send me an email with your guess. The surgery will be performed rain or shine. In the event of bad weather, people can email their guesses to me on the day and the winner will be announced by a group email later that week.

The organisers discussed when the pig had last been emptied and we thought it was two years ago. So, you’all need to think about how many Wednesdays we have played with a nearest-the-pin competition over the last two years and how many people have needed to pay the pig a dollar for missing their two; or two dollars for not even getting a three; or those who just fed the pig two dollars anyway.

2021 SHOOT OUT Sunday 5 December

At 8am all 16 players met in front of the clubhouse to hear Jono and Fiona share the organisation and guidelines for the 2021 Shootout Competition. The first order of business was deciding the playing order. Once this was established they all made their way to start on the 4th tee. The conditions were reasonable with overcast conditions but no rain in sight. For the first few holes there were a few nervous ‘chip offs’ with some people repeatedly being in them. Soon players got into the groove and playing ready golf ensured the game flowed. Coming down the wire with only 3 holes remaining, Nick Allan (2020 winner) left on the 16th. Then John Healy was dropped on the 17th. This left Phil Goodwin and Stu Preston to battle it out on the 18th.

Men’ Shootout

1st Phil Goodwin

2nd Stu Preston

3rd John Healy

4th Nick Allan

5th Grant Pollard

6th Darren Riley

7th Tim Richards

10th Alan Henwood
