Important notice from the Club committee

Karori Golf Club Covid-19 Vaccination Policy from Friday 3 December

Dear Member,

Our club’s objective is to provide a safe and healthy environment for our members and guests to enjoy their golf, and for all our staff to be able to come to work each day and go home each evening fit and healthy.

Following the changes to the management of the Covid pandemic announced by the Government your committee has met to consider how it should manage the operations of the club under the new “Traffic Light” rules which apply from Friday the 3rd of December. In considering what the club’s policy should be we have consulted other regional clubs, and have received guidance from Golf Wellington. The policy adopted is that being implemented also by the other clubs consulted.

The Committee has resolved that a “no jab no play/enter” rule will apply from Friday the 3rd of December. This means that all members and visitors must be double vaccinated by that date to enjoy the use of club facilities. All clubrooms’ staff will also need to be fully vaccinated.

We believe this is in the best interests of members and staff, and is essential in ensuring compliance with Government policy. It is clear that hospitality businesses and clubs that require people to show proof of vaccination will be able to operate with far fewer restrictions than those that do not. In fact, at the expected “orange” traffic light level from 3rd December, hospitality businesses that don’t require this will only be able to operate on a contactless basis (i.e., “click and collect”) and gathering limits will apply.

Karori Golf Club has over four hundred members, and the Committee understands that there may be a number who for a range of reasons have decided not to get the Covid-19 vaccination. While we would encourage every member to get vaccinated, we accept that in the end it is a decision for each person to make. Unfortunately, this means that from 3 December, any members who are not able to prove that they are double vaccinated will no longer be able to visit the Club, until circumstances change.

Exceptions to the policy can only be made in the case of presentation of a valid vaccination exemption certificate. At the point Government policy or a member’s vaccination circumstances change, they may be welcomed back to once again enjoy the full range of benefits of club membership.

The committee notes that the Government has implemented a “vaccination certificate” system that is available for download on your phone, or which can be obtained in hard copy. This will be required to be presented at the clubrooms to verify a member’s or visitor’s double vaccinated status, from Friday the 3rd December.

To conclude I reiterate that our key objective in developing a Covid-19 vaccination policy is to do everything we can to safeguard the health and safety of our staff, our members, their families and guests and to allow the club to operate as normally as possible under Government policies.

We will be in touch again as further details around the practical application of the policy are developed.

Best wishes, Victor
