Make Time - Play 9

Once again this year Golf New Zealand is running the Make Time Play 9 - Road to the Open competition. From 1st October 2021, club members who hand in a 9-hole scorecard will be in with a chance to be randomly drawn as one of nine players invited to the Make Time Play 9 Final event hosted in Queenstown in 2022.

All 4 tees are rated for men to play the front or back 9 and currently the Red and Yellow tees are available for Ladies to play front or back 9 as well. If any of the Ladies would be keen to play 9 holes of the White tees please let Hector know and we can arrange to add them as an option.

Matt’s Message: (Greenkeeper’s memo)

Spring growth is coming through and this means that Matt and his team are working hard to ensure that greens, fairways and rough are cut as regularly as they can. We need you to do your bit by repairing those pitch marks and replacing those divots.

Matt and his team have been busy spraying paths and will be making the most of the windless conditions to spray fertiliser and insecticide. Please ensure to wash your hands thoroughly when you finish your game.

Just a reminder the grass bunkers are still considered GUR and have a white line painted around them. These are also being sprayed and will have seed sown and fertilised to encourage grass growth.

We have organised a “Course Sub-Committee” who have already undertaken a ‘course walk’ with Matt to discuss some of the work being undertaken to improve fairways, surrounds and greens. We will keep you posted about our future works which will include coring in November - after our City of Wellington Tournament.

2021 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The first round of the Club Championships was completed with a beautiful spring day last Sunday. Congratulations to those who have made it to the semifinals. We ask that all other golfers please be aware of these games when you are playing on Sunday so you are not holding them up. Let them through as this makes the game more enjoyable for all.

Men Senior Trevor Brown v Scott McHardy David Thorburn v Adrian Porter

Intermediate Peter Kirkman v Sar Palado Steve Witkowski v Horn Dim

Junior A Mark Reed v Stu Preston Nick Allen and Finn Buckeridge

Junior B Gethyn Healy v Antoinio Cantalapiedra David Marten v David Peterson

Quarter and semi-final matches may be played earlier than set date by mutual agreement.

If you have any questions/queries please contact the club at karorigolf@gmail.com

Women - Silver Division Fiona Kearns beat Denise Marten

Celia Howden beat Gail Kirkland

Reminder: When you are playing match play you cannot enter into the Club Day Stableford. The reason is that you are giving putts and sometimes not finishing out holes completely. This makes for an unfair advantage.

Wednesday Club

27 players enjoyed mild sunny conditions only affected by the slightly damp course underfoot in places. Masks worn in the club-house hid the disappointment some experienced with their scores as over half the field scored less than 30 stablefords.

The winner was Peter Wilcox on countback with 34 points with the runner up Jeff Mason also on 34.

Other winners of balls were Victor Diem on 33, and Alex Lim, Graham Presland and Mike Cox all on 31.

No twos were scored and with the NTP not deployed the only other ball awarded was to Doug Calhoun who must have got stuck in a puddle!. Raffle prizes were won by Graeme Crocker, Alan Henwood and Ben Paradza.

TWILIGHT GOLF

Daylight saving will soon be with us, and twilight golf will be starting again on Wednesday, 6 October . Tee off is between 4:30 – 5:15 pm.

Twilight is open to members and non-members, so you are welcome to bring a friend or two also. The cost is $20 per person, which gives you 9 holes of golf, a gourmet BBQ, a chance at a prize and a Mulligan! We will once again be sponsored by Richard Reith from Collective First National Real Estate. Thanks Richard!

Please note that there will be no ability to get cash from the bar via eftpos, so please remember to bring cash with you.

See you all on WEDNESDAY 6th OCTOBER
