Even at the Kasumigaseki Country Club for the 2020 Olympics the weather delayed play. Look at those angry clouds. The sun will be shining though on Karori for the upcoming weekend!

Matt’s Message: (Greenkeeper’s memo)

With the greens being soft after our continuous rain, pitch marks have become prevalent. Please ensure you are repairing these on the green. Below is an explanation of what you should be trying to do to repair any plugs.

In summary,

  • Take your tool (or a tee) and insert the prongs into the turf at the rim of the depression, rather than the depression itself

  • Using a gentle, twisting motion, push the edge of the mark towards the centre

  • Flatten by gently tapping the surface using your foot or the sole of your putter

Do not insert a tool and attempt to raise up the depression

Bertram Cup

The final of the Bertram Cup was played on Sunday after many weeks of rain delays. After 7 holes were played several weeks ago before the match was called off due to unplayable conditions, Michael Huynh and Martin Currie went up against Wayne Cook and Gail Kirkland for the remaining 11 holes. It was a very even match going down to the 18th.

Congratulations to the 2021 Bertram Cup Winners Martin Currie and Michael Huynh.

Westward Ho - Men’s Singles Matchplay

Round 2 was mostly played on Sunday with the exception of Scott McHardy v Matt Roche which will be played tomorrow. Congratulations to David Carroll, John Stubbe, and Hector Slade for their wins over Michael Wood, Keith Atkinson, and Paul Hawkes. Good luck to those playing this weekend.

Round 3:

David Carroll v Hector Slade

John Stubbe v (winner of Matt Roche v Scott McHardy)

Committee Updates

The Committee currently consists of only 6 members, and we would therefore welcome more Committee members to join. In addition to helping produce a successful club, Committee membership provides great experience for those wishing to progress their careers into managerial or directorship levels so we would strongly encourage our new younger members to consider getting involved. Every little bit helps and it would be greatly appreciated by current committee members and the everyone involved in the club.

Hole 4 ‘High Tee’ - Hole in One Challenge

Thanks to our sponsor Richard Reith at Collective Real Estate for putting up a hole in one challenge on the 4th hole. If you get a hole in one on the 4th hole during a competition you will win an incredibly nice bottle of Jean-Marc Vigreux-Frere Champagne! Competitions include Interclub, Sunday Club Day, Shootout, and Twilight. Good luck to all!
