Matt’s Message: (Greenkeeper’s memo)

Matt is currently away on a well deserved week’s leave but his safety message doesn't change - the course is very wet in places so take extra care as you go round - especially on the slopes going up to tee blocks and greens, and on our bridges. When crossing a bridge, walk, don't run, stay on the grating, don’t stop on them to look for balls in the creek, don’t try and pass anyone on a bridge.

Please also note that no carts are to be used on the course until the ground has had a chance to dry up. This will need a few days in a row of sunshine and no rain before the ground is dry enough for carts.

Golf Puzzles

Congratulations to Tim Kirby for not only correctly answering the puzzles but also being the randomly selected responder to win a sleeve of golf balls. They are behind the bar with your name on it! The answers were as follows:

1. Ray was 54, Roy was 36

2. Ray had $18, Roy had $14

3. The dog’s name was “yet he”

WEDNESDAY CLUB

13 players participated in a stableford competition on Wednesday. The wind gusted a bit and it was wet underfoot but conditions were fine for winter golf. The winner on countback, with 34 stablefords, was Dave Norton who claimed 3 golf balls. The unlucky second was Peter Kirkman who selected the chocolate biscuits. Golf balls were given down to 32 stablefords. Mike Cox was nearest the pin on the 4th and, like many, he had a 3 putt, and paid the pig for completely missing his two. Patrick Cordue had the only two of the day on the 6th. Raffle prizes went to Mike Cox and Peter Kirkman. Fergus won at the wrong end of the competition and donated his ball to the chocolate box (which is yet to be selected as a prize by the competition winner).

Scott McHardy v Matt Roche

Bertram Cup

The final of the Bertram Cup is set to be played this Sunday as well after many weekends of poor weather preventing the competition final from happening. Wayne Cook and Gail Kirkland will play against Martin Currie and Michael Huynh on 4BBB matchplay off handicap. Good luck to both teams.

Men’s Vets at Otaki

After 6 Vet Tournament cancellations in a row due to the weather we were treated to a fine sunny day with light breezes at Otaki. Playing conditions were excellent although the cool air & lack of run meant only two of the 66 participants played to their handicap or better in the four Age brackets. Most of us had a handicap reduction of 2 to 5!!

9 karori players competed alongside members from, Boulcott 12, Martinborough 5, Miramar 10, Mornington 5, Ohariu 8, Shandon 6, Te marua 3, Wainuiomata 6, Dunstan 1, Royal Wgtn 1, Trentham 1.

Age Bracket winners:

< 69 1st George Kelly , Boulcott 36pts. Our best Ngatau Hemopo, 6th with 29pts.

69-71 1st Rob Ashby , Mornington 30pts. Our best Horn Dim, 4th with 28pts and Takashi Shigeeda, 5th with 27pts.

72-74 1st Graham Wigley, Boulcott 37 pts. Our best Martin Leung, 3rd with 32 pts.

75 + 1st Don Galbraith, Mornington 33pts. Our best Steve Robinson, 5th with 27 pts.

Congrats to Steve, Horn and Ngatau for being amongst the prizes on their first outing with Vets. Steve and Horn also gained two of the five prizes for twos.

Raffles were won by Victor (2), Tony Kwok, Graham Presland, Mike Magurk and Tony Hewitt.

Committee Updates

The Committee currently consists of only 6 members, and we would therefore welcome more Committee members to join. In addition to helping produce a successful club, Committee membership provides great experience for those wishing to progress their careers into managerial or directorship levels so we would strongly encourage our new younger members to consider getting involved. Every little bit helps and it would be greatly appreciated by current committee members and the everyone involved in the club.

GOLF CLUB/TRUNDLER STORAGE ROOM

What a difference! The trundler room is starting to take shape. You will notice little brown tags on your golf trundler and also on lockers which have items stored in them. There are notices around the place too, reminding all members to write their names on the labels to show ownership. Any items unnamed in September will be removed.

Hole 4 ‘High Tee’ - Hole in One Challenge

Thanks to our sponsor Richard Reith at Collective Real Estate for putting up a hole in one challenge on the 4th hole. If you get a hole in one on the 4th hole during a competition you will win an incredibly nice bottle of Jean-Marc Vigreux-Frere Champagne! Competitions include Interclub, Sunday Club Day, Shootout, and Twilight. Good luck to all!
