Matt’s Message: (Greenkeeper’s memo)

There has been work done on the left of No 11 and this area will continue to be GUR until the grass has taken hold. Please take care to park your trundlers and carts away from the surrounds of the greens as these areas are getting boggy and worn with use.

Remember there are lots of buckets and sand to be taken by each and every member to fill in those pesky players who take large divots and don’t replace them.

Please remind players in your four to carry sand buckets and replace divots.

PACE OF PLAY - PLAYER RESPONSIBILITY

Remember the game of golf is a lot more enjoyable when the field flows. Very few golfers would admit to being slow players yet we can all do our bit to play a little bit faster.

Player responsibility -

  • Be ready to play

  • While you are waiting to play, use your time wisely so when it is your turn to play you are ready to play

  • When it is your turn to play, play promptly.

  • Consider your pre-shot routine - saving even a few second will help

  • When play of a holes has been completed, leave the putting

KGC BOOKINGS - We want everyone to please use the online bookings

We are asking our membership to please use the booking system online when coming out to play. This is one way to help us if we need to contact trace and it also gives us valuable statistics about how and when our course is used. This helps us to plan events and also accommodate larger group bookings. If you have any issues booking online please contact the KGC Office as we are more than happy to help.

Tin Cup - Interclub Players Event

We are looking forward to the most epic of battles between our interclub teams on Saturday. The Team Captains are prepped and have worked hard in training their teams to pull out all the stops to win the coveted Beige Jacket. We wish players all the very best for the day and may your scores be low and your spirits high!

KEN AND ROSE RIGARLSFORD TROPHY EVENT

This annual event is to be held on the 27 June. Mark this in your diaries now and advise Hector at the Karori Golf Club office or enter online. The men play for the Ken Rigarlsford Trophy and the women play for the Rose Rigarlsford Trophy. Both are best stableford competitions. More details will follow next week.

WESTWARD HO SHIELD

Here we have another trophy event to test your skill and expertise. This is a singles matchplay on handicap event of the white tees. To enter you need to ensure you have entered by Wednesday 30 June.

You can enter online or on the Club noticeboard. The qualifying round is nett medal on Sunday 4th July and depending on the number of entries it will be 16 or 8 to qualify.

VOLUNTEERS SAFETY CARDS

Have you noticed stream beds and edges are looking tidier and neater? Have you been able to identify your ball in our penalty areas. This is because a number of our members have volunteered their time and energy to help maintain these areas of the course. We thank them as their efforts have been noticed and appreciated by those who have to enter these areas to retrieve their wayward shots!

As part of our Health and Safety plan for volunteers we have been working with the greenkeepers to come up with safety cards for all those wonderful people who volunteer their time to help with keeping our streams/creeks in good flowing condition. These photographed instructions will be shared on the Club Noticeboard and will also be sent out as an attachment email in the next week or two. Keep an eye out for these.

COURSE RATING UPDATE

Just a reminder that the course has been re-rated to be deemed slightly easier and changes will be effected shortly. Most members will notice a 1 shot difference to their course handicaps when first playing after the changes have been implemented.

These changes come as a result of the need to reflect the impact of the 2019 rule change regarding penalty areas, and the updated practice to account for wind, plus the desire to more accurately reflect the rating of the course for the alternative tees that Wednesday Club regularly play off. There has also been adjustments made due to our change from sand bunkers to grass depressions.

An email explaining the new rating will be sent out on Monday 31 May - this will explain the rating.

Wednesday Club

Twenty nine golfers enjoyed wonderful weather and course conditions at Wednesday club. The winner on the day was Jeff Mason with 39 stablefords. Keith Atkinson with 36 points was second on countback from Paul Hawkes and Mike Suggate. Balls were given down to 34 pts. NTP was Keith Atkinson who had to pay the pig as the only two of the day was Luke on the 6th. The raffle was won by Terry McAlister with Mike Suggate grabbing second and Martin taking 3rd prize.

Security Reminder

Members who store their golf clubs and/or carts/trundlers are reminded that they do so at their own risk and that any loss of items is not covered by the Club’s insurance policy. It is important that after retrieving or returning your clubs from/to the storage area under the clubhouse that you latch the door with the bolts on its inside before closing the other door. If this is not done, then it may be possible to push the doors open even though the doors are locked by the combination lock.

To improve security around the clubhouse we will shortly be installing a CCTV system that will provide continuous surveillance of the premises.

Level 2 Referees Course

The Wellington Golf Referees Association (WGRA) is running a Level 2 Golf Rules Course at Boulcott's Farm HGC on 13 and 20 June. The course is aimed at those who wish to extend their knowledge of the Rules or who wish to become a qualified referee. If you wish to have further information please contact Fiona at fionakearnz@gmail.com
