Hi Members
Friday Flash - 4 December 2020
Matt’s Message
We have hired a gang mower and the team worked hard last week to ensure that our course was cut. We are working so we can keep it under control. The unpredictable weather patterns we have been experiencing in Wellington does mean we urge members to take care walking around the course. Greenstaff have been removing fallen tree branches in the last couple of days. Please keep alert when playing in windy conditions.
Thank you
Have you taken a rest on the 8th?
Thanks to the Shirties; Laurie Cook and Dick Borgdorff for organising and placing a lovely new seat on the 8th tee. These bench seats not only look good, but are so comfortable to sit upon. What a great view!
Adopt a Ditch - Volunteers needed…….
Thanks to Dick, Dave, John and Chris who have signed up to keep No. 6 and No. 5 creeks/streams tidy and under control. There will be some photos and guidelines developed to ensure all those who volunteer are aware of potential risks and safety precautions needed. We are still seeking more volunteers - if we all pitch in then it means we can spread the responsibility. Great to see so many people offering to be part of the solution. Thanks.
SHOOTOUT - THIS SUNDAY!
Polish up those spurs and shine up your saddle ready for the 2020 Shootout competition which is taking place from 8.24am on Sunday 6th December. There is a wonderful prize pool
to play for - just have to make it to the top 10! - Players needed to have 12 qualifying cards to compete in this prestigious event. Congratulations and all the best to these players who have ‘made it’.

Report on the First Men’s Interclub Trial – 28 November 2020
Starter and Club Captain Fiona Kearns sent thirteen trialists off in perfect overhead conditions. Our well drained and prepared course withstood all the rain dumped on it over the last few days and provided an excellent test of golf.
In keeping with Interclub playing conditions, players were ranked in handicap index order and matched against each other in a way that minimised the handicap difference between players. The matches and results are shown in the following table:

Hole in 2 - Garth Mickell on the 13th
A review of the available cards showed that all players were able to post good individual hole scores. However, in many cases some big numbers crept onto the card. There were two exceptions to this. Horn Dim who kept up his City of Wellington form with another 78 and Alex Lim who played the eight holes 9 to 16 in just one over par.
A matter that came up over refreshments at the end of the trial was the need for players to understand the Rules of Golf and be able to use them to their advantage during a match. There is good news on this front with a Rules session run by the Wellington Golf Referees Association being planned for Interclub players.
Thanks to those who played in the trial - the race to the Eddy Deonarain Trophy has started!
The next trial is scheduled for December 12th with tee times from 10:04. Please make the effort to play in it as we build to season 2021.

COVID PRECAUTIONS
Please keep up the handwashing, the checking in, and all of the other usual precautions around this. The authorities fear people are getting lax, and the events of this week have shown it can resurface very quickly.
SCORECARDS
If you want to avoid printing cards, use the golf.co.nz app instead, it has a scorecard enabled. Simply use the clubhouse wifi to open it and the scorecard before you tee off - then it is able to operate in offline mode.
