Matt’s message to members

At KGC we have had many challenges this 2020 year and seemingly now some machinery has decided to breakdown. This has meant that our rough is looking rougher, and fairways are not up to the standard that Matt would like. This is not due to his or his team's lack of trying. Fortunately he has managed to secure a hired gang mower so the rough should look less rough and they are all working hard to ensure the course is the best it can be. The greens staff are eagerly awaiting  a replacement part for our fairway mower. Please be patient and make use of the placing through the green’ while you can!

Please take care when walking, particularly in the rough – mind where you put your feet as we have a number of rabbit holes which may be hidden under long grass.

Thank you Adrian

Unfortunately, Adrian Porter has terminated his contract with the Club. He will continue to work for the month of December. We thank him sincerely for all  the hard work he has put into the club during his time in this role. He has established systems and processes which will enable the Club to continue to move forward in a positive manner.  He has contributed significantly to raising Karori Golf Club’s profile as a relaxed golf club with friendly and helpful staff.  Thank you for all that you have done. It is appreciated.

Annual General Meeting

Come along to hear about how the year has panned out for the Karori Golf Club, and our plans for the next year at our Annual General Meeting on Saturday 5th December at 9.30am in the clubhouse.  After this meeting you are invited to partake in a round of golf with fours selected by a disc draw.

Do you want to make a difference? Then seriously think about joining the 2021 Karori Golf Club Committee. We need members who are willing to join the committee and make things happen. See the nomination form on the noticeboard or talk with one of the existing committee members at any time (we can co-opt new committee members) for more information. Remember this is YOUR club!

Eagles Murray Halberg

On Saturday 21 November, at Karori Golf Club the Eagles Halberg Day was held. A field of 51 gallantly took on the day with the forecast for extreme winds in the afternoon. Although it was a rather chilly day the wind didn’t really pick up until later in the afternoon. Tucked up nicely in the clubhouse, there was a wonderful atmosphere with plenty of warm food and drink in supply. There were plenty of raffles on offer and also an auction ably led by Keith Gaskin who used his skill and wile to sell off items; all for a very worthy cause - the Halberg Trust.

Our men’s winner, Alex Lim came in with an impressive 40 stableford points while. Gail Kirkland took out the women’s 18 hole section with a steady 36 points. Both these players have qualified to represent Karori Golf Club at the Eagles Field Day in February at Shandon. In the women’s 9 hole division Jane Campbell had a very commanding 20 points. There were only 2 twos carded on this day to Martin Leung (Karori) and Naomi Radburn (Paraparaumu Beach). It was a well organised event and it was an absolute pleasure to have the clubhouse full of laughter and frivolity!

ADOPT A DITCH

Looking for a way to volunteer at Karori Golf Club

 “Many hands make light work!”

Dave and Paul have started by volunteering some time to help keep clear a creek bed (No. 13). Join up with a friend or group of friends and adopt a ditch – this means you/your group is responsible for maintaining it – keeping it clear of weeds on a regular basis. All balls found are yours. Can you spare an hour or two?  There is no set time – It is entirely up to you! Can you help us keep our course looking great?

Write your name up on the noticeboard or contact Fiona at karorigolfclub@gmail.com

CARPARK –

If you have been out to the club recently you couldn’t have missed noticing the fresh repainting of the cark park lines and directional arrows. This was all arranged by club member Kevin Turner, recently retired from the WCC roading division, and his regular weekend playing partners who funded the job via donations. A big thank to all involved on behalf of the whole club.

If you have a particular skill which you think could be usefully used by the club somehow, or a pet project you would like to see actioned, please don’t hesitate to offer you’re your services.
