Another week, and another shift toward normality.

Those of you who venture out will notice the return of the 135 metre markers, so there’s now no excuses for missing wildly short or long, other than your own failings!

As well the Government has relaxed the numbers that are allowed to congregate, so we can now have up to 100 people in the clubhouse.

The clubhouse will be open more now. We can now seat more than four players at each table, but we still must have a meters gap between each table. It’s almost like real life again.

Only Eftpos will be accepted in the clubhouse  - no cash - please sanitise hands before and  after use. Sanitiser will be available.

Shop will be open, please do not touch any items you do not wish to purchase.

Help out Debbie and Anna by sticking to the rules. Another review of Level 2 will be announced by the Government on Monday week.

Prior to Lockdown we had made a decision to increase the price of some of our bottled beers, this was due to the increased wholesale price of the products.

When the clubhouse is open, we will open the Pitch n’Putt course ,with players to register their contact information at reception. They must have their own clubs.

Carl Beentjes 
After a number of years serving as Club Captain Carl has decided to step down with immediate effect. Carl has done a tremendous job and the committee would like to thank Carl for his efforts over the years. 


It is in fabulous nick. Long-time members can’t recall it looking better, so a big thanks to the great work of Matt, Pat, Lucas and the dogs.

Help them out by repairing your pitch marks on the greens, and divots on the fairways. And don’t forget to thank them for their hard work - you can’t phone them, as their phone is not working at the moment. That will be fixed.

Keep an eye on your items too, there have been a few dropped tissue papers littering fairways of late - no one wants to touch those at the moment!


Online booking will continue under Level 2.
We can accept walk up players as long as they register their contact information.
Wednesday club will be able to commence with a shotgun start from June 3.



This is up and running. It is slightly different to the old system, so your handicap might change - it updates after each round too, so you could have a different handicap on Sunday, than the day before.


The advantages are you get a handicap you can use in any country, plus it stops burglars by constantly updating and preventing handicaps blowing out after a series of bad cards.

The best 8 rounds of the last 20 will now count to establish your handicap (it was 10). Course rating is now being included in the handicapping formula in addition to the slope index .


Bertram Cup (MEN AND WOMEN)

Bertram Cup qualifying will be on Sunday, June 7. This is a 4-ball best ball off the Blue tees for men and yellows for women. Pairs can be male, female or mixed !!!!
Please put your pairs names down on the sheet in the foyer or email your intention to play to the club by Friday June 5.
You may play your qualifying round any time on June 7 but there are dedicated slots from 9.50am for Bertram Cup. The top 8 pairs will qualify for the Quarter Finals on Sunday 14th June.

FIREWOOD (keep warm, help the club)
It’s winter, it’s a bit brisk already, with snow on the Tararuas. You need to keep warm, so the club has a deal for you. Members can now buy firewood from the club, if they bring their own trailer.

You need to play the club online (just call the office, they’ll help) before picking up the wood, and email the club saying when you want to get it.


Firewood can be picked up from the greenkeepers’ shed between 8am-3pm, Monday to Friday.

AND NO, we will not be chopping down the tree on the second, or that evil leaning one that ruins approach shots on 18.

CLEANING (job opportunity)

We need a cleaner. If any member knows of anyone who could be interested in this position please email the club. We are getting by with volunteers at the moment.


We need help to remove the cut wood from the ninth fairway, please let us know if you can help. We know the GUR rule is helpful on that hole, but really the timber has to go!

LEVEL 2 rules, repeated, repeated, repeated

Legally, the club still has to observe social distancing, trace and track and washing cleaning protocols. The aim is to keep all club members safe so that the arrival of normal life is not delayed.

Sorry if you’ve already read them once, twice, three times, but they do bear repeating under our club obligations. Plus they’re really great rules, and we all love rules!!

There will be no food in the cabinet, the pie warmer is now in the kitchen, so you have to order food from the specially sanitised KGC staff.


Please use the sanitiser and hand wipes, as per the Government’s cleaning protocols.


One GOOD THING, particularly if you’re a yippy putter:

  • for the sake of good health, GIMMES ARE ALLOWED - half the length of your putter shaft, not half the length of the green!


Unwell players are not to come to the course. If you have a cold, sore throat, or a cough please think of others, and don’t come out to the course.

Coughing is a sign of coronavirus, plus it can put golfers off those short but crucial putts. Stay home if you have a cough.


Wash, wash, wash: players should wash their hands regularly, particularly before and after their round. Hand wipes and sanitizer will be available in the toilets. Please wipe down all areas you have touched.


All players, members and green fee players must book online, or check in at the office. Don’t simply turn off and venture out on to the course. That’s illegal. When the office is unattended the players’ list will be located downstairs near the log in screen.


People who are in the clubhouse, but not playing, must also register, so we can track and trace.


Cards can be obtained but not to be touched - marked or signed - by another player. Please wipe the computer screen after use.

Scores can be entered digitally using hands cleaning protocols. Scores can also be entered on the DotGolf scoring app.


  • Clubs and carts stored at the club, can be used by one player only.

  • When retrieving these from storage please do not touch anyone else’s clubs trundler

  • Wipe down the key pad door handle after use.

  • Hire clubs will not be available, but golf carts can be hired.

  • Private carts should be restricted to just the one user under level 2.



  • Tee times are 10 minutes apart. Groups must wait for the correct time to tee off, not simply fire away after the group in front has played their second shot.

  • Golfing groups must maintain their distance from each other. Hitting wild slices and hooks onto other fairways will therefore be frowned up!

  • Flagsticks will be on the course but don’t touch them - putt with the flagstick in. Short “gimme“ putts should be given.

  • Bunkers will be designated GUR  - they are not up to standard as yet. There will be no bunker rakes on the course


RE OPENING DAY (still in planning, also called THE RUNNING OF THE GOATS)

RE OPENING AMBROSE. We’re looking at 9 holes. The clubrooms renamed the Covid 19th Hole for the day. The timing is still being worked out, as is the year’s programme.

Team names will be allocated, and the prizes won’t be first, second, third, last - they will be Level 4, Level 3, Level 2 and Self Isolate We Don’t Want to Catch Your Crummy Shots
