Staff absences and apprenticeship commitments meant that only Wednesday was available this week for sanding the greens but priority was given to the Wednesday Club so they did not get their final sanding as planned – instead they will now be sanded on Monday. We wont close the course but if you are intending to play on Monday please give our green keepers priority on whatever green they may be working on when you come across them.
This Weekend’s Events
Tomorrow our 3 men’s interclub teams will be playing each other for the Tin Cup and more importantly, the prestigious Beige Jacket to be worn by the winning captain. They will be teeing off just after 9am on holes 1 and 5, which is why we have closed off some of the tee times from 8.10 to ensure the early starters are through the 5th tee by 9am. A bbq will be put on for the participants after play while results are being compiled.
Our women’s Saturday club are playing Stableford.
Recent Results
As they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Congratulations to our men’s interclub teams who all had resounding wins last Saturday, which in the case of our Div 2 and Div 9 teams, ensured they avoided relegation, and in the case of Div 5, gives them a mathematical chance of winning their grade when they play their catch up match against Martinborough next weekend:
· Div 2 beat Shandon 12.5 – 2.5 at home
· Div 5 beat Otaki 10.5 – 4.5 at home
· Div 9 beat Miramar 10.5 – 4.5 away
Our women’s Mary Alward interclub team were also in action, playing a catch up game at home against Miramar, going down 4 – 8.

The Autumn Cup unfortunately became a no contest with Ian Patience unable to play, enabling Graeme Crocker to increase the total of his best 7 scores to 67, thereby beating Ian by two points. Well done Graeme – it will be good to see someone else’s name on the trophy after Ian’s monopolisation of it these past few years.
Good to see would-be gun slingers building up their shoot out rounds – progress reports up to yesterday for both men and women are attached.
Women’s Tuesday Club
Once again there was a good turnout of 9 hole midweek ladies for their Tuesday game. Connie Lee and Lindsey Pickering won their matchplay games. The remainder played a Par game and the winner was Edna Collingwood with - 1.
Men’s Wednesday Club
Many thanks to Matt for delaying the final sanding of greens as 23 Wed Club members enjoyed a good day out on the newly mown fairways.
The winner on the day was David Ainsworth with 41 pts followed by Mark Graham with 39. Others to win a ball were Marcus Henry 37, Mark Noblett 37, Don McCrone 36( thanks for the ball Don), & Satish Chandra35.
Twos were scored by Keith Atkinson, Derek Fitzgibbon, Patrick Cordue and Mark Graham (3rd in a row!).
Ian Bates was nearest the pin winning the toss after he and Graham Presland had the same distance and both missed their twos. Ian has paid the pig. Keith Gaskin did not quite play to his age but enjoyed his day!!
The Raffle was won by Paul Hawkes, Dave Burton and Gerd Warnke .

Course Update
For those who haven’t been out to the course lately, it is currently looking its emerald’s best, with all the fairways lush and green, and some of them now a bit more shapely with the green keepers having mown a few curves to increase their visual appeal. The disused bunker on the 7th that was filled with corings has now been levelled off are resown, which will improve the visual appeal of the approach to the green. The area will though remain as GUR until the grass has fully taken. We have also started to stockpile soil on the spare land between the 10th and 17th fairways for use around the course and possibly for potential repair of the leaking irrigation pond. We hope to engage shortly an arborist to fell the split tree on the approach to the 10thgreen.
