We have got great Autumn golfing conditions on our course at the moment. Hopefully you are all getting the chance to enjoy them.

This Weekend’s Events

Tomorrow our Women’s Saturday Club are playing LGU3 – Putting 3 while for men, Carl is organising a Captain’s Choice Disc Draw which will be played on a nett basis and will also count towards this month’s Monthly Medal. As usual the Monthly Medal will be played in 2 divisions with the lower handicappers off the blue tees and the higher handicappers off the white tees. There is no need to pre-enter the disc draw, simply turn up and register in time for the disc draw at 9am with tee off to start 5mins later. It is open to women as well as men so if the women’s Saturday Club players would like the opportunity to play with the men they are welcome to do so. There will be a $5 entrance fee which will all go towards prizes on the day.

Interclub Results

Last Saturday all our interclub teams were in action with the following results:

· Our women’s Mary Alward interclub team had a good 10-2 win at home over Boulcotts Farm to jump a couple of spots on the table but this could be short lived with us having a bye next round.

· Our Div 2 men’s team played Masterton club Mahunga at home, winning 11.5-3.5 to put them within 2 points of second place, albeit a long way behind the leaders and with no more home games to come.

· Our Div 5 men’s team also played at home, beating Ohariu 13-2, to climb off the bottom of the table and increase their chances of avoiding demotion.

· Our Div 9 men’s team played away to Kapiti, going down 11-4 to slip down the table but still well clear of demotion.

With only 2 more rounds to go, competition looks set to increase as teams vie to cement their positions.

Women’s Midweek Club

The 9 hole ladies enjoyed sunny and calm conditions on Tuesday for their stableford competition. Chris Suggate produced the best score with 20 stablefords followed by Heather Montgomery on 18 pts and Marg McCarthy on 15 pts. Well done ladies.

The previous day, our interclub team played at Shandon. Unfortunately, Shandon were too good on their home course, with Karori going down 3-1. We are now placed about midway on the table.

18 Hole Midweek Women

The midweek interclub Pennants team played Masterton at Miramar on Monday in cold, wet, and windy conditions. Shelley Hall was our only winner on the day resulting in an 8 – 1 loss.

The Tuesday competition was Medley 7 stableford won by Shelley Hall with 35 points, followed by Sin Yee Hailstone 28 points and Elizabeth Wagner 26 points.

Men’s Wednesday Club

It was another fine day with 32 people competing in the magnificent course condition. Based on the par format, the winner on countback is Dick Adam with +2, and the unfortunate runner up with similar score is John Markham. The rest followed with Saint Kennach with +1 and Mike Cox all square. Balls were distributed for Chris Pearce with -2 and Ian Bates, David Ainsworth and Gerd Warnke with -3. We had 2 twos with Don McCrone and Ian Patience. The bunny was fiercely competed and finally Satish Chandra won the unwanted prize. The wintry condition seems to affect most of the players.

For the regular raffles, the winner is Doug Langford, 2nd prize went to Fergus and 3rd prize to Saint.

For the wine raffles, Patrick Cordue donated a box of Christmas pudding to make the 2nd prize. Unfortunately, both prizes went to the same winner: Victor Diem who had a luck day with raffles but not his golf. It proves that by buying multiple tickets, we get our money back.

The highlight of the day was that the Wednesday group donated $9,000 to the Club to purchase a second hand fairways mower from Wellington College. Our club manager, Jono Wake was there to explain the dire need for good running equipment to maintain the course. Only one of our fairways mowers is operational, but only just, and the club has applied for grants to help fund a new one. This second hand one will tide us over in the meantime and provide a reliable backup for the new one. The club is also applying for grants for a new surrounds mower, as our existing one has died and we are currently having to manage with a borrowed one.

The substantial saving of the Wednesday group was made due to tight control of expenditures from the committee in previous years. We are thankful for their dedication. Our present efforts to accumulate more savings will continue to be made by introducing wine raffle to raise funds for the club as a whole. Members are encouraged to support the wine raffle so that we can finally pass on to the club money to make necessary purchases in the future.

Reminder next Wednesday competition, it will be Makara trophy. The format is drawn pairs (odd and even number), best of two balls on stableford points. Please arrive early for the draw which will begin at 10:45 instead of 10:55 as usual.
