Interclub 2023

Following an average season in 2022 our teams had much to do to improve in order to move towards our strategic goal of achieving a team in the Waikanae Cup in the reasonably near future.

We contested Divisions 3, 5, 8 and 12 in the Welling Golf inter club competition.

Teams in divisions 3,5,8 competed to win their divisions while those in division 12 played to get experience and to enjoy the camaraderie of other golfers.  Karori has been innovative in including a number of our women golfers in the squad.  This has proved to be a really successful initiative.

All three teams in the competitive divisions had reasonable seasons: Div. 3 finishing a credible third, Div. 5 finishing 2nd and Div. 8 finishing 4th following a disastrous start to their season.  The more social mighty div 12 also finished 4th in their group.

Div. 3 won the Challenge Trophy played for with Martinborough on a home and away basis 16.5/13.5 and our Div. 5 team have earned promotion to Div. 4 by virtue of finishing second. The top placed team Miramar was not able to be promoted out of the grade.

Mark Peck was the coordinator for inter club 2022 taking over from Geoffrey Lee who has rendered long loyal service to Karori Golf.  Geoffrey captained Div. 8 so kept his interest in that role and in conjunction with his deputy Mike Weaver managed to keep the team in division 8.

Thank you to all players and captains for their efforts this season. Particular congratulations and wishes of good luck to div 5 on their promotion to div 4 for the coming season.

Team captains for 2022 were Div. 3 Mark Peck, Div. 5 Grant Pollard, Div. 8 Geoffrey Lee and Div. 12 Kevin Norquay.  Geoffrey Lee will be retiring from active duty this season and Mike Weaver will be captaining Div. 8 for 2023.

Practice trials commenced on 19 November and as always we are on the lookout for new players to join our squads.

Some sixty golfers participate in interclub during a normal season (a large proportion of our membership) but we are always on the lookout for new players.
