Although it’s still autumn there is a distinct feeling of winter in the air. But the course is in great nick and looking an absolute picture at the moment. If you haven’t been out recently, try and make it out this weekend. The forecast is looking good and you should enjoy perfect playing conditions and serene ambiance.
This Weekend’s Events
Tomorrow our women’s Saturday Club are playing Medley 8 – Stableford while our Mary Alward interclub team are playing Wainui at Wainuiomata, hoping to bounce back from a tough match last weekend at Royal Wellington. All 3 of our men’s interclub teams are also in action, with all 3 playing at home and hoping to use home advantage to good effect. Our Autumn Cuppers will also be in action, with this week’s round being played on a Nett basis. With only 2 rounds to go, anything can still happen, with each player’s 2 worst rounds about to drop out of the overall scoring. Best of luck to all players.
No events are programmed for Sunday so plenty of scope to book your own tee times. And don’t forget that the 3 tee slots from 10.30 to 10.45 are closed off for members simply to turn up and play with whoever else turns up then.
Upcoming Events
The Bertram Cup is our next major event for our men members. It is a pairs knock out event played on a 4BBB handicap format off the blue tees. A qualifying round will be played on Sunday 14 May with the top 16 pairs going into the first knock out round the following Sunday. This is our main pairs event for the year so start forming your pairs now. An entry sheet has been posted on the downstairs foyer notice board – add your pair’s names to this sheet or ring/email the club. If you don’t have a partner but would like to play in it, let the club know and we will try and arrange one.
On Saturday 27 May we will be hosting an Argentina tournament, being put on by the Argentinian ambassador to NZ as part of their National Day celebrations, or more correctly, their Día de la Revolución de Mayo, which is celebrated every year on 25 May, being the anniversary of their first independent government that followed a small revolution that took place in Buenos Aires on 25 May 1810. It promises to be a fun event, with participants being able to enjoy some Argentinian fare after the event which tees off at midday. A field of 50 is planned with 20 entries being reserved for KGC members so if you would like to play in this, look out for the entry form that will go up on our notice board next week and be in early with your entry. Entry fee is $10 per club member.
Wednesday Club
KGC Wednesday Club results for 3 May 2017
We warmly welcomed Pat Woodward, joining us for the first time, and also, some time Wednesday player and strong supporter, Graham Black, who was making a farewell appearance before heading to warmer fairways in Thailand. Members took the opportunity to show their appreciation for the huge contribution Graham has made to the Karori Golf Club, in various capacities, over many years. Thank you and bon voyage Graham.
27 players entered the 18 hole "Par" competition followed by 5 nine holers. The gale force winds made playing conditions very challenging for most of us but David Ainsworth was in his element, convincingly winning the competition with a score of +5. Runner-up was Fergus McLean on +2 followed, by Mike Suggate +1 and Nobby Noblett "all square", who were the only players to play to or better their handicaps. Not surprisingly there was strong competition at the other end of the field with the reward for persistence just going to Gerd Warnke.
There were 3 "Twos" all of them particularly meritorious: Graeme Crocker hit his tee shot on the 4th to within 1.5m to take the N T P prize and sank his putt: David Burton scored a "Two" directly into the northerly gale on the 13th: Don McCrone drove the green on the 12th, to then have his opponent Nobby's chip shot hit it and nearly knock it into the hole. If it had gone in would that have been an "Ace"? Don replaced his ball and sank the putt for an Eagle 2 to win the hole from Nobby"s birdie!
Raffle winners were John Stubbe (18), Gerd Warnke (24) and Mark Dinsdale (22).
Following the Field were the five 9 Holers having great fun completely mastering the conditions with some great shots and near misses, rewarded with the fine sandwiches and coffee etc back in the clubhouse.
Cheers and look forward to seeing those who can make it next week. DS ....with thanks to Chris Pearce for the delightful competition report.
Golfers Equipment Assistance Programme
Golfers Equipment Assistance Programme (GEAP) is a New Zealand Golf established service to serve the interest of golfers throughout New Zealand. It provides compensation for golf equipment that is outside the scope of cover provided by household or personal effects insurance.
- Store your clubs at the golf club? No need to worry about theft, with GEAP your gear is protected.
- Broke your club while playing? Most contents policies don't cover sporting equipment while in use, with GEAP you're covered.
- Rest easy knowing you won't have to fork out $200+ with excess fees.
What's included:
- GEAP provides cover for golf equipment for damage caused while in use and also offers reimbursement of the excess from insurance claims.
- GEAP offers cover for golf equipment such as clubs, bags, trundlers (including handheld, battery powered trundlers), golf shoes, golf apparel and golf umbrellas.
- Claims are first made through the golfer's own insurance company. The excess or any uninsured loss is claimed back through GEAP.
- Claims must be made within three months of the event.
The cost is only $20 per NZ golf club member for $1000 of cover per year, with an excess of only $15 per claim. For more information go to the NZ Golf website, or click on this link
