What a great night at
Twilight last night – early evening on a windless night is a perfect time to
play golf. But unfortunately all good things come to pass, and with daylight
saving nearing its end there is only one more week left – make sure you lock next
Thursday into your diary now.

For the non-interclub men it is the 6th round of the Autumn Cup, with this round being played on a best net basis.

Wednesday Club
KGC Wednesday Club results for 22 March 2017
Today we welcomed Neville Carson, Wayne Feehan, Steve Satherly and Ross Simpson all visiting from Miramar Golf Club, together with sometime Karori member, Murray Barber making up a field of 34 who competed in the 18 hole Par competition, followed by 6 stalwart nine holers. Low cloud lingered over the course most of the day but when the sun did manage to break through it became quite hot and humid with little wind to clear the air. Conditions obviously suited most of the players with more than half the field playing to or better than their handicap, but no one came close to matching Dave Burton who had a truly brilliant round, 'shooting his age' and finishing a remarkable 11 up! Congratulations Dave. Closest to him was Gerd Warnke whose excellent 7 up would on any other day surely have been good enough. In all 10 players with scores of 1 up or better won prizes. Murray Barber showed that he still remembered his way round, by winning the prize for closest to the pin on the 4th hole but failed to sink his putt for a two and paid the usual penalty. Twos were scored by Don McCrone (2nd), Ross Simpson, Miramar, (6th) and Mike Cox (13th). Chis Pearce had the dubious honour of playing the most golf by an uncomfortable margin but had some consolation by getting first prize in the raffle (No 27): other raffle winners were Dick Adam (No 14) and Mike Cox (2).
Nes Beard Trophy
The 18 hole stableford competition for this trophy and prize will be played next Wednesday, 29th March, in conjunction with the usual Wednesday competition. All men members, 50 yrs and over are eligible and most welcome to join in: disc draw at the usual time of 10.55am"
Cheers & thanks to Chris Pearce for the info, DS
Harcourts Twilight Thursday 23 March
Another awesome autumn evening for Twilight golf in calm and fine conditions. We had a big turnout with 20 players this week so plenty of competition for the prizes, and some good scoring. The clear winner on the night was Peter Nichols on 24 points ($20), Second equal place went to Brigitte Boenisch-Brednich, Terry Bastion, Tim Richards and Malcom Miller, all on 21 points ($15), and third placing to Karen Simcox on 20 points ($5). The Easter Bunny consolation prize this week went to Angus Shaw, (our BBQ donor last season) returning to Twilight with wife Nicky for their first visit of the year. We look forward to seeing everyone next week – tee off between 5 and 5.30pm, followed by a bbq meal.
LAST TWILIGHT NEXT WEEK 31 MARCH - our final night diner and prize giving will go ahead next Thursday rain or shine. Competition is tight and a number are still in contention for the overall Twilight Trophy so hopefully the weather will hold for our final night. It is getting dark early now, so please arrive by 5pm so we can finish in time. If it’s raining, we’ll still go ahead with dinner and prize-giving commencing from 6pm. I’ll send out an update the night before with an indication of the likely forecast. Our final dinner will be prepared by Sara followed by the prize giving including a number of spot prizes - all club members and visitors are welcome.
Green Keeper Update
The Committee is pleased to advise that we have appointed a new head green keeper to replace Scotty who is heading overseas next month. He is Matt Spraggs who is currently a senior green keeper at Boulcotts Farm. Matt will start on Monday 3 April in time for a handover with Scotty before he leaves. Once Matt has settled in we will look again for an apprentice to bring our green keeping complement back to 3. Welcome Matt, we look forward to having you on board and to continued development of our course as the best country course in Wellington.
Karori Event Centre Fundraising Tournament
Excitement is building for this ambrose event, scheduled for Sunday 9th April to help raise funds for the fit-out of the new Events Centre about to be built in central Karori. The entry fee is $120 per team of 4 for KGC members, and $200 for non members. Entry forms are available from the shop, or email your details to the tournament coordinator, Fleur Nicholas

New Seat on the 12th Tee
A big thank you to Laurie Cook who built and donated the new seat that appeared on the 12th tee last week, replacing the one that used to be there. With the green on this hole being driveable for many players from the white/yellow tee block, players often have to wait before being able to tee off, so a seat to rest up while waiting is very welcome. Thanks Laurie!
Card Printer Outage
Apologies to those of you who weren’t able to print out score cards downstairs from Sunday afternoon through to midday Tuesday. We lost internet connection on Sunday afternoon and it hadn’t come back on when we closed up. Fortunately we had already pre-printed everyone’s cards for the Seniors tournament on Monday but as a result we didn’t discover that the downstairs card printer wasn’t printing out cards, even though it was working for score entering, until Tuesday.
