A couple of great winter golfing days this week, with both the men's and women's midweek clubs enjoying superb conditions, albeit the women postponing from Tuesday to Thursday. Although the weather has turned again today, we are hoping it will clear in time for the Rigarlsford Trophies tomorrow, for which the draw has been prepared and is attached to this email. Late entries will be accepted on the day, but you will need to register by 9am.
Frost Reminder
Early morning players are reminded that they should delay their tee off if the course is covered in frost, just as the ladies did on Thusrday, not teeing off until 10am. Walking on frost covered greens risks killing the grass that you stand on. We dont have many frosts per year, so rather than risk long term damage to our greens, please accept this inconvenience if you have booked an early tee time on a frosty morning.
Men's Club Champs
Entry forms for these are now on the downstairs notice board. As usual, these will be played "off the stick" (ie without handicap) in 4 divisions
- Senior Handicap Index 0 - 8.3
- Intermediate Handicap Index 8.4 - 14.5
- Junior A Handicap Index 14.6 - 20.7
- Junior B Handicap Index 20.8 +
Qualification and seeding for the Match Play Championship rounds will be based on the Stroke Play Championships that will be played over 36 holes for the top 3 divisions on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of September and over 18 holes on Sunday 4th September for Junior B. The Stroke Play Championships will be determined by lowest gross score in each division. The top 16 qualifiers in each division will progress to the main Championship rounds which will be played on a knock out Match Play basis over 18 holes, except for the grand final for the top 3 divisions which will be played over 36 holes.
Entries close on Sunday 28 August so get them in now for your chance to get your name recorded on our Honours Board as Club Champion for 2016.
Shootout Reminder
Dont forget that those wishing to compete for the Top Gun shootout prize at the end of the year need to complete a minimum of 15 shootout cards. Progress to date for the men is attached - some of you will need to get a wriggle on if you want to complete 15 rounds by cut off date. Dont forget also that you cant play a shoot out round at the same time as a match play round.
Wednesday Club
Wednesday Club & Oteranga Trophy Results 10 August 2016
A truly magnificent day encouraged some 38 players to participate for the Wednesday Club (Par) and Oteranga Trophy Competition (Drawn Partners aggregate Par). The course although being in great condition was hard to handle for some,+++ perhaps brought about by lack of practice due to the shocking weather over the past week. Following a warm welcome by Chris Pearce to visitor Jimmy Knowles, he’s also Doug Shearer’s brother, Chris then introduced our Club Captain Carl Beentjes who apologised for not being able to join us more often etc.
The Oteranga Trophy winners were then announced as:
Club Captain Carl Beentjes & Guy Walmsley (Chris Pearce presented the Cup but unfortunately Guy could not be present for the photo) with aggregate of +2 from the runners-up by Count-Back Chris Pearce & Patrick Cordue. while in third place Dick Adam & David Norton stood alone “All Square”. The Wednesday Club Individual Par competition was won by Patrick Cordue +5 following a miraculous first 9 he informed us, while in second place on +4 was Carl Beentjes... with further Golf balls distributed down to –1. Nearest the Pin on the Prodrive Sponsors 4th Hole was Luke Underwood who made a fatal error in missing the crucial and costly putt – rumour has it there may well be a sweep to guess how much is in the Swag Bag used for these appropriations - Watch this space...! There were two “Twos”, Gerd Warnke on the 6th and visitor Jimmy Knowles on the 2nd. For the most undesirable yet apparently eagerly sought reward was decided either by Count Back or Count Forward system... too much hilarity to hear what was actually used to determine the winner which in the end proved to be Ian Bates. In the Weekly Raffle: 1st No 27 Chris Pearce, 2nd No 28 Gerd Warnke and 3rd No 4 held by Athol Swann.
An altogether superb day to which the attached photo barely does justice. Cheers and looking forward to seeing you all again next week.
