Wednesday Club
  • 17 golfers played a Stableford competition on Wednesday. Gunter Karau was the winner on 38 points with Michael Cox second on 37 points (beating Martin Lung on countback). Balls were given down to 36 points. Gunter was nearest the pin and paid the pig for missing his putt. Victor Diem had the only two of the day on the 4th. The winner of the cash raffle was Mike Suggate with Michael Cox second. Free chocolates were given to those who did not win prizes. (Cheers Patrick)

Wednesday Twilight

  • 31 came along to Twilight this week, all looking forward to a balmy summer evening of golf, but then the mist and wind came to Makara! Our winning group saw three getting a $5 voucher with 17 points: Keith Gaskin, Jeff Mason and a visitor from Royal Wellington, Mark Cooney. Two got $10 for 18 points: Terry Bastion and Kaine Paki and two collected $15 with 19 points: Martin Binks and Ryan Du Plessis. Runner up was Gail Kirkland, on 20 points and the winner this week was Paulo Fuiono on 22 points (both getting a $20 voucher). Golf balls went to Eric McCauley, Mark Cooney and Jeff Mason for 'twos' and James Cosgrove for NTP.

  • Thanks to Steve Witkowski for BBQing this week, to Karen Simcox for another great salad and to Isaac in the kitchen. See you all next week! (Cheers Gail)

Ladies

  • Golf & Wine: Every Tuesday evening there's an open invite to meet other ladies for a fun and relaxed game of golf. Non-members welcome. All levels. Perfect way to get in a round of golf after work. Tee-off from 5:45pm. Thanks to Sarah Ellis for co-ordinating.

Friday 9H All-comers

  • For those wanting to get a sneaky 9H in on a Friday morning, three tee times have been booked from 9am. The emphasis is on ‘social’ golf. So, if you’re keen to play 9H before the weekend with other members, please come along. Thanks to Peter Howman who co-ordinates this group.

Gaskies - 9am Every Sunday

  • Gaskies is an "all comers" group of members who meet on Sunday morning to play golf and enjoy each other's company. It is particularly good for new members who are looking for people to pair up with to enjoy their golf. Be at the picnic table at 8.45am for the card draw before the 9am tee off.  You never know who you will be playing with so your chance of meeting more golfers at the club is pretty good.

Junior Golf

  • 45 juniors will be back this Sunday. Holes 1 - 9 will be for the exclusive use of programme participants between 1:30/2:00 - 4:30/5:00pm. Timings vary depending on which groups are playing the course each week. The practice facilities (fairway and putting green) will also be closed for programme use from 3:00 - 4:30pm. Please consider this when planning your golfing weekend.

Weekly Report

This week has been all about mowing and general course maintenance. An new irrigation box was recently installed which means irrigation can now be controlled remotely and be more targeted. That said, there are dry patches emerging on a few greens which require regular hand watering. A little rain would be nice!

Divots & Pitch Marks

A quick note about keeping our course in great shape. Our greenskeepers work hard to keep the course in the best condition possible throughout the year, but they need our help. We all must do our part to take care of and respect our course. We ask our members to do just a few simple things:

  • Replace your divots or fill with sand (i.e. carry a sand bucket)
  • Repair your pitch marks
  • Refrain from practicing on the course – please use the practice area
  • If you see an unrepaired divot or pitch mark - please repair
  • If you see someone not complying with the above - have a polite word & let the staff know.

Annual General Meeting

The 2024 AGM (the 56th for lovers of history) will be held at the Clubrooms, 9.30am on Sat 07 Dec 24. This will be followed by a disc draw for 18- or 9-Holes of golf. We hope to see you there.

Dogs @ KGC

Dogs are welcome on the course, however, they must be Kiwi Avoidance Trained (KAT) to be allowed off their lead. Information on KAT can be found here: https://www.capitalkiwi.co.nz/get-involved/train-your-pets/.  Please email the clubhouse with your training certificate, so your pooch can be added to the KAT Register in the clubhouse.  If dogs have not been KAT trained, they must remain on a lead at all times.
