Although there is a bit of rain around today and more is being forecast for Sunday, tomorrow is looking good, and may be your best opportunity to play this weekend. If you haven’t already entered the Rigarlsford tournament, please do so now as we will be doing the draw about 3pm this afternoon and will circulate it by separate email. We have over 40 entries so the shot gun start will include some holes on the back nine. As a result we are not opening up the start sheet for non tournament players until later in the day but if you regularly tee off on Saturdays between 7 and 7.30am and are not playing in the Rigarlsford, then you can still do so but you must start on Hole 8.
For those playing in the Rigarlsford, tee off is at 9.06 so please register by 8.30am. There is a $5 entry fee to cover the cost of the prizes and catering.
Other Upcoming Events
On Sunday 21st July it is the qualifying round for the Westward Ho Shield for men. The Westward Ho is a singles knock out matchplay event, played on handicap off the white tees. This is a great competition to start honing your matchplay skills for the club championships which begin on 1st September. The qualifying round is played on a net basis with the 16 players with the lowest net scores qualifying for the knock out rounds that begin the following Sunday. An entry form will be on the notice board this weekend.
The Argentinian tournament that was postponed from tomorrow has now been confirmed for Saturday 17th August, with tee off at 11am. An entry form for this event will also be back on the notice board this weekend.
Bertram Cup Winners
Congratulations to Wayne Cook and Erich Bucher who won the Bertram Cup last Sunday in the final against Gary Clarke and Boyd Kenna.

Women’s Tuesday Club
Another good turnout of 9 hole midweek ladies meant stiff competition for the ISTAS game we played. The winner was Susan Wright on 31 points followed by Chris Suggate on 30 points. 3rd equal place was shared by Hilary Holm and Trish Titcombe.
Men’s Wednesday Club
This week competition was the Jose Ribeiro Farewell Cup which attracted 27 players. Unfortunately, as soon as everyone was at their tees, we had a fairly big downpour and 5 members withdrew from the competition. However, the rain did not last long and we had good weather for the rest of the game. Probably due to difficult conditions, nobody played below their handicaps. The winner was David Norton with 36 points on count back because we had 2nd (Satish) and 3rd (Saint) runner up who had the same score. Prizes were handed down to those with scores of 33 and above.
All prizes were donated by Jose and the winner is to keep the trophy until Jose comes back to KGC sometime in the future. Jose not only provided the trophy, wine, and German beer, he also cooked special Portuguese cakes for all members to taste. So we had a wonderful day and we are grateful for Jose's contribution to the club.
Other prizes include NTP which went to Peter Kennedy but he missed the putt so our pig fund is getting bigger. Ian Bates was the only Two for the day before suffering a mishap on the cart bridge of the 5th hole. He slipped and his electric trundler went into the creek, suffering some bruises and scratches. Incidentally, Victor also suffered the same fate 1 year ago on the same bridge. It is requested that KGC install a metal mesh to avoid any future incidents.
Raffles were won by Doug Calhoun, Don McCrone and Chris Pearce.
After being in NZ for 4 and a half years, Jose will leave at the end of July. We will miss him and wish him luck in the new diplomatic posting to New York. Regards, Victor
Bridge Safety
As evidenced by the accident reported by the Wednesday Club above, our wooden bridges can be very slippery in winter, especially if you are wearing cleated golf shoes. We are ordering more metal grating to put on the cart bridge on the 5th fairway and to supplement existing grating on other holes but until it has been installed we recommend walkers cross the creek on the 5th fairway on the old cart bridge.
Please adhere to these rules when crossing on our bridges:
· Enter the bridge carefully – some of them may not be completely level with their foreground
· Cross on the metal grating strips
· Walk don’t run
· Don’t stop on the bridges to look for balls in the creeks
· Don’t try and pass anyone on a bridge
