Little sign of autumn yet so hopefully as many of you as possible will be able to enjoy excellent late summer conditions at our course while your scribe takes on the St James Walkway in Lewis Pass, after having returned this week to his birthplace to play in the West Coast Golf Challenge. With a wedding function being held at our clubrooms today, there may be some cleaning going on tomorrow morning.

All our interclub teams are back in action this weekend:

· Our women’s Mary Alward interclub team are at home to Miramar

· Our Div 2 men are away to Shandon

· Our Div 5 men are at home to Martinborough

· Our Div 9 men are away to Trentham

For non interclubbers, the Women’s Saturday club are playing Par while for men, it is the 5^th round of the Autumn Cup, with this round being played on a net basis.

On Sunday morning it is the quarterfinal round of the Holland Cup. Best of luck to the 8 competitors still in the field.

Upcoming Events

This month’s all members event is the Jubilee Cup tournament, to be played on Saturday 23 March. Last year we celebrated the 50^th anniversary of the current Karori Golf Club’s incorporation (we are the 4^th version) and next year we will be celebrating 50 years since the course was opened. The cup donated for last year’s anniversary tournament by the Quin family, whose father won it during the reign of the third Karori Golf Club, will again be up for grabs, along with other prizes, with the emphasis being on competitive fun. It will be a stableford competition, with men’s, women’s and 9 hole divisions. An entry sheet is on the notice board in the downstairs foyer along with the flyer.

On Friday 22 March we will be holding a sponsors’ ambrose tournament, which will require us to close the course from about 10am. Although primarily an opportunity for us to thank our sponsors, we expect there to be some room in the field for members to enter a team – if you are interested, let the club know – entry fee for non sponsors with be $10 per person, to cover the cost of the bbq, prizes, and the opportunity to win a Honda car for a hole-in-one on one of the holes. We will also be looking for helpers on the day, to help with the bbq, drinks cart, and spotters for the hole-in-one – please let the club know if you can help out.

Recent Results

Last weekend the March monthly medals were up for grabs for men members. The better scores were achieved on the Saturday with the winner of the Blue division being Victor Esguerra who shot a net 66, 3 ahead of runner up Keith Atkinson. Winner of the White division was Ian Patience who scored a net 70. Both Victor and Ian are now eligible to compete for the Top Dog trophy at the end of the year.

With summer now officially over, so too is your chance to further improve your Eclectic scores. We will next week be collating the results and checking opening and closing handicaps – if you still have scores from December/January/February to add to the master sheet on the downstairs notice board, please do so in the next few days. Also next week we will be publishing the result of the Miners Arms – if for some reason you haven’t added the results of your February round to the sheet on the notice board, please do so over the next few day.

Women’s Tuesday Club

On Tuesday 12 of the midweek 9 holers turned up to play the 3rd round of our medley competition.

Once again Chris Suggate had a winning score of nett 30, Susan Wright was 2nd on nett 31 and 3rd place went to Kath Robinson on nett 32. Some great scores ladies!

Men’s Wednesday Club

28 regulars coped with windy conditions with a skillful few playing to their handicap or better. The winner was Martin Leung with 40 pts followed by David Ainsworth 39pts and Saint Kennach with 36pts. The following all scored 35pts and received a ball - Graeme Crocker, Graham Presland, Fergus McLean (thanks for the donation Fergus), Keith Gaskin, David Burton and Alex Lim.

Nearest the Pin - Peter Kennedy (who paid the Pig!) and the most exercised was David Norton! No twos were scored and the Raffle was won by Keith Atkinson $20, Jerry Barber $10 and Kevin Corrin $5.

The club has its Sponsors Day on 22nd of March and we have again secured Honda to provide a Car for a hole in one prize. We therefore need some volunteers to spot on the 4th hole on that day. Team Yip Twilight Golf

Records tumbled thick and fast at last night’s Twilight competition. Highest attendance was reached this year with 27 players taking to the Tees. Despite the ferocious wind 12 of them scored 20 STB or more. For the first time this season the same player took out NTP (Hole #4) in successive weeks – well done Gloria Grayson! Doug Calhoun not only acted as Starter for the field he also took top prize with 24 Stablefords. The luck of the Samoans (Milo Faletolu has won 4 of the previous 5 lucky dips!) was superseded by the luck of the Irish as Milo lost the lucky dip to Heather Thompson, Gail’s sister-in-law from Northern Ireland. We also welcomed her other sister-in-law Patricia, and Father-in-law Nelson. However Milo and family (Jack Whakatihi and Willie Whakatihi) did not go home empty-handed with scores of 20, 20 and 23. Isaiah continues to lead the field with his outstanding dishwashing – thanks Isaiah! Geoffrey Lee also scored 23, while Brigitte Boenisch-Brednich and Marg McCarthy scored 22. Graeme Hoy was alone on 21 and Celia Howden, Gail Kirkland, Sally Combly, Antony Kennedy came in on 20. There are only 3 playing nights left to go!

New Members

Membership Tags

Membership tags have been ordered for everyone who has joined or renewed this year and should be available for pick up next week. Note that we now order only one tag per member.

Firewood

Once again we will be selling firewood this autumn/winter harvested from the course. The cost is $120 per cubic metre delivered or $100 for self pick-up. However, please note that following instances of theft of our firewood during weekends, pick-ups will only be allowed on week days between the hours of 7.30am and 3.30pm, and only after having paid in advance and after having advised the green keepers of your intended pick up date and time. Please note also that given we are still a green keeper down, there could be delays in delivering firewood. Contact details for our green keepers are

Level 1 Golf Rules Course

The Wellington Golf Referees Association is running its 2019 Level 1 Golf Rules course next month at the Boulcott's Farm clubrooms. The course consists of 3 evening presentations followed by an optional 1 hour exam on the 4^th evening and presentation of certificates the following week. Passing the exam will qualify the attendee as a Club Rules Official. See the attached flyer for further details.
