Twilight Prize Giving 2016

We held our final Harcourt’s Twilight Prize Giving for 2016 on 14 April. Tim Rivers organised a great putting competition for the last night. Winner of the putting competition on the night was the very reliable Phil Robinson.

This was followed by a pot luck dinner with a variety of national culinary delights brought to the table. A novel idea for our Twilight event and a great way to end the season. Thank you to everyone who made the evening a great occasion.

We had many highlights during the season; but setting fire to the bbq on the last night certainly finished the season with a bang. We received a very kind offer from one of our Twilight regulars to make a donation for a new BBQ for next season which was warmly welcomed by everyone.

So how did the season go this year number wise? We had 20 nights of golf over the season starting on 15 October and ending on 31 March, with amazingly no cancellations. A total of 275 entries, 49 people involved at some stage during the season, and 12 people with more than 10 entries.

We generated at least $3,300 in revenue for the club, and collected $1,500 in competition entry fees, of which 60% was paid out in prizes each night, leaving a pool of $600 in prizes which were given out at the prize giving.

We changed the catering format a little this year and we seemed to have held our numbers. We will review this again for next season and look for ways to improve. If you have any suggestions / ideas, Tim or I know would greatly appreciate your feedback.

The Twilight competition itself was very close again this year, certainly thanks to the efforts of the handicapper. Not surprising is that the top four placings all played the most rounds over the season, and all played consistently good golf. The lead did change regularly during the season, right up until the results of the final round.

So the overall winner of Twilight on 206 points for the 10 best rounds was the Tim Rivers, second place Antony Kennedy on 204 points, followed by Marg McCarthy and Phil Robinson both on 200 points. Highest men’s points on any one night during the season went to Doug Calhoun (28 points) and the highest women’s points were shared by Gail Kirkland and Marg McCarthy on 25 points, with Gail taking the prize on countback.

Our thanks to Sara for staying late on Thursday evenings to prepare the dinner and providing a great range of salads and food for the bbq.

Once again, many thanks to Bod Davidson from Harcourt’s in Karori for his support for Twilight during the season. Bob was a regular at our Twilight evenings and we appreciate the continued sponsorship of Twilight and the club by Harcourts.

Thanks to everyone involved in Twilight this year for your help and support during the season – it has been very much appreciated, (from helping on the bbq to cleaning up afterwards) and made the work Tim and I needed to do so much easier. Obviously without your support this event wouldn’t happen.

Look forward to seeing everyone at Twilight in October this year. Roll on daylight saving.

The results for the season are attached.

Wayne and Tim.
