Tuesday

9 hole Midweek Ladies

On Tuesday four ladies played off for the Top Mug competition, the last competition of the year before prizegiving at the end of the month. Congratulations to Jane Campbell who won this trophy with a nett score of 34.

The rest of the members played a nett competition which was won by Lauren Robey with a nett 33.  Well done Lauren.

Thank you to all our special members for helping Jane and the team host the Vets yesterday.

Chris.

Wednesday Competition

Hi All,

Yesterday, eighteen golfers competed in a Par competition. We had three visitors: Nic Williams, Vinh Phan, and Hector Slade. And we welcomed Arthur Howard for a second week. The winner was Ian Bates (+1) beating Patrick (+1) on countback. Balls were given down to all square. There was just one two to Hector on the 13th. Gunter was nearest the pin and had to pay the pig. The cash raffle was won by Vinh with Saint second.

Regards

Patrick

Thursday

Ladies Vets

The Wellington Women’s vets were hosted by Karori on Thursday in some lovely sunshine. The eighteen holers was won by Lynne Pope from Miramar and the nine holers was won by Hilary Newby from Karori. Karori women benefited from home advantage by featuring in other places as well. Everyone said the course was looking great if a little challenging! Thank you to the green keepers and volunteers who ensured the course was so good for the day. Thank you also to Keith, Issac and Debbie for ensuring the day ran well and everyone had a delicious lunch. All the women members helped in some way to ensure the day was successful, thank you.

Jane Campbell

Twilight Golf

We had twenty keen golfers at Twilight this week, playing in pretty windy conditions. For yet another week it would be an exaggeration to say that the overall scoring was high!!

We welcomed two new competitors, Nicholas Williams and his son Francis. Francis and Brigitte Boenisch-Brednich were in third place with 18 stablefords; Nicholas came joint second, alongside John Stubbe with 19 points (I think that our newcomers will be back!).

With 20 stablefords, Geoff Lee came second and our newish Twilighter, Nick Rodgers, rocked home in first place with 24 points (we are definitely adjusting his handicap for his next round!!!).

NTP was Graeme Couper and we had no 'twos' this week.

Big thanks again to all our helpers, particularly Doug Calhoun for BBQing in the wind and to Karen Simcox for restaurant-style salads.

At next week's Twilight we are having an Italian night so come along and enjoy the golf, the food and buon divertimento

Ciao :)

Gail

Four rounds, 72 holes, playing each of our courses. Blue, White, Yellow, Red.

We encourage players to get sponsors and raise as much money for the cancer society as possible.

We will put on a bbq lunch after the first two rounds and a BBQ dinner after the 4th round.

We are encouraging entries and looking to see if we can get more than the 10 intrepid Golfers who played last year.

Be warned  - Anyone playing their regular Saturday round will be encouraged, arm twisted to donate on the day by our team of fundraisers!

Our Vice President Adrian Porter, and a regular longest day competitor and current champion Scott McHardy have fundraising pages set up.

The Course

Feedback from the ground is that the course is really shaping up and looking good.

TK is down one staff member (on leave) so he would like to thank the volunteers who have helped out so far. It makes a huge difference having more hands on deck.

There will be some more working bees so keep your ears open and please chip in if you can.

AGM – Save the date

Our AGM will be on the morning of Saturday 9th December. Save this date in your calendars and come out for a round of golf as well. More info to come.

Committee members required

Our club has an excellent committee, a plan for the future and now a very good staff team. But running any enterprise, including a golf club, is becoming more demanding and as we see from the news much more expensive. Without a strong committee the club cannot function.

A number of committee members have served for some time and assisted in the move from a largely volunteer run organisation to one with a much more professional structure. Two of these committee members wish to step down after years of service and this means we need to recruit several more committee members.

We have roles for all, but needs in three areas:

  1. Treasurer. This position requires a person with accounting skills and a working knowledge of Xero would be useful but not essential, along with a strong strategic view on the club and its funding going forward. Marcus Henry, the current treasurer will ensure a longish handover to ensure there is no lack of continuity
  2. Women. The club is very clearly in need of more women, and to help accelerate their recruitments and development we need more women on the committee - joining Denise Martin as Fiona Kearns has stepped down after many years of service
  3. We would also like some younger people, or even a junior representative.

Interested in the challenge/opportunity? Nomination forms are available at the clubrooms, or give Mike Suggate a ring on 021 774471, or email him at president@karorigolf.co.nz.

Gate issues

Our gate has been programmed to open at 5:30am and close at 9:30pm now.

If you happen to be here later than that just drive up tp the gate and when you are close enough it will automatically open and let you out. ??

Cart Room

If you play late and put your cart back in the cart room late please be sure to lock the door when you leave.  It has been left open a couple of times recently.

Tee Bookings

Remember to please book your rounds into DotGolf so we can track course usage.  Thank you. ??

That’s another round from me.

Have a great week.
