Good afternoon golfers
This is going to be short and sweet this week.
It falls into two categories.
1. We need help. 2. Golf upcoming and results.
So, here we go!
1. We need help
We do and that means you.
We need help in two areas right now.
a) The Course
We have two major events coming up and we need to whip our course into shape. Without labouring it at all we have had issues getting on top of spring growth and dealing with continual equipment breakdown and turf diseases.
This has lead to quite some challenge in taming the rough and eliminating unwanted growth from our playing surfaces, particularly the greens.
Consequently we are going to have to put in some volunteer hours to help the green staff.
Our course supervisor TK Ross has a list of things that need to be done by close of play on 24 November so there is something for everyone to do. There will be two organised volunteer events; the first on Thursday the 23rd of November (meet at the clubhouse at 9am), and the second on Friday the 24th of November (again meet at the cluhouse at 9am and for those of you with other commitments just when you can).
Lunch will be provided at midday both days.
It is not necessary to let us know if you are coming out. Just turn up and you will be given something useful to do. Please bring sturdy shoes and gardening gloves. Some gardening equipment would also be useful. Maybe even the odd robust mower and/or weed eater.
Normally we have a hit out over nine holes at the conclusion so bring your clubs too if you wish.
b) The Committee
The Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday the 9th of December when all positions are up for election.
Our treasurer has indicated that he is not available for election this year so we need someone to fill this vital position. Running the money side of things is a unique skill and we would encourage any of you with these skills to contemplate service to the club in this area. Marcus has indicated that he will provide a full handover so that a new treasurer is not left to figure it all out for themselves.
Also the club is made up of men and women, young and old and we could certainly use a strengthening of contribution in these areas too.
Once again it comes down to you. No one else can fill your shoes and if you have something to contribute we need you.

2. Golf
i) Upcoming:
a) Top Dog:
All our monthly medal winners through the year are eligible to play for the Top Dog prize (winning some silverware and an appropriate prize). The "dogs" in the fight are Terry McAlister (2 medals), Gavin Lowe, Kevin Norquay, Perry Florance, Marcus Henry, Shane Redmond, Laurie Cook, Jon Lyall, and Tim Richards.
Good luck to you all. Tee times from 8.32am on Sunday will be reserved.
b) Karori Eagles Halberg Foundation Tournament
Enter online (https://www.karorigolf.co.nz/event-calendar) or enter in the more traditional manner. This is always a well run and enjoyable days golf.
c) Champion of Champions, Sunday 26 November.
This is a Wellington Golf event and as such is primarily run by them We provide the venue and the staff for the day.
The course will be closed for the day of the tournament and our manager will sort out reciprocal arrangements with other clubs for our members to get a round of golf on the day.
d) Longest Day - Saturday 16 December 2023
While this is some way off, anyone keen on supporting the cause raising funds for the Cancer Society may want to be thinking about it now. Its 72 holes in the day and last year attracted a field of about a dozen hardy souls who between them raised a considerable sum.

e) Women's Golf
Tuesday is womens day at Karori. While it looks like theres nothing on the calendar come along and join in.
f) Wednesday Competition
Be at the clubhouse by 10.15am to go in to the disc draw ahead of the 10.30am tee time.
$5 pays your entry for the day and buys a raffle.
All welcome.
g) Women's Vets
The Women's Vets are playing at Karori on Thursday 16 November and the course will be closed until after 2pm. If you are looking for a game on Thursday it may be a good idea to join in with the Thursday Twilight.
h) Thursday Twilight
This is a fun evening with 9 holes of golf off the short tees followed by a gourmet barbecue dinner. $20 covers the entry and the meal. Lots of fun and good prizes. Get a good start to your weekend.
i) Sunday Golf
Shirties, Matts Mob and Gaskies support Sunday Club Day.
Come and join in with any of these groups. You will be made most welcome.
Particularly, if you are at a loose end or don't have a group to join Gaskies invites you to be at the picnic table by 8.45am Sunday morning ahead of the 9.06am Tee time and go in to the card draw. You will be guaranteed a game. No golfer left behind.

Best of the women: Denise Marten on 36 points.
b) Monthly Medal
Tim Richards on nett 68 from Ciaran O'Kelly on 69 with Gary Clarke on 71.
