Captain's Corner
Club Report
Good morning golfers

The City of Wellinton Classic has come and gone.

Eighty five golfers took part and in the main enjoyed the day despite the blustery conditions.

Well done to the winners and special thanks to all who helped make the day a success, particularly Adrian Porter who took on the lion's share of organising the event.  Most will have no idea how much time and effort goes in to such an event so an acknowledgement is called for. Thank you Adrian.

We will be debriefing about the tournament as there are a number of issues which need consideration including how to attract more women to enter.  A field of seven suggests that there is more that we should be doing and we need to address these before the next event.

1. Upcoming events:

a) Karori Eagles Halberg Day - Saturday 25 November 2023

I've managed to upload the photo of the flyer for this event.

This is a great event and for a good cause.  It will be played the day before the Champion of Champions so the course should be in best condition.  Hopefully the weather will behave too.  Let's fill the field and raise some money for a good cause.

Enter on line at (https://www.karorigolf.co.nz/event-calendar) or sign on to the sheet in the downstairs foyer.  You may also call the club (04) 476 7337 and talk to a person.

b) Champion of Champions, Sunday 26 November.

This is a Wellington Golf event and as such is primarily run by them  We provide the venue and the staff for the day.

The course will be closed for the day of the tournament and our manager will sort out reciprocal arrangements with other clubs for our members to get a round of golf on the day.

c) Longest Day - Saturday 16 December 2023

While this is some way off, anyone keen on supporting the cause raising funds for the Cancer Society may want to be thinking about it now.  Its 72 holes in the day and last year attracted a field of about a dozen hardy souls who between them raised a considerable sum.

In the meantime Scott McHardy is first cab off th rank and you can supoort his efforts at this link (https://longestday.org.nz/scott-mc-hardy).  As others enter we will give them a shout out too.

2. Golf this Week

Our women are playing today (weather looking like a spoiler sadly).

Wednesday Competition is tomorrow.
Be at the club house by 10.15am to go in the disc draw for the 10.30am tee time.
$5 entry fee covers the competition and buys a raffle ticket.  The group also have an additional raffle going which you may also support.
All members and affiliated visitors are welcome.

Thursday Twilight

This is a fun event.  Come along and enjoy a relaxing evening of nine hole golf from the short tees followed by a gourmet barbecue.  Everyone welcome.  $20 covers the golf and the dinner afterwards.

Sunday Golf

Shirties, Matts Mob and Gaskies support Sunday Club Day.

Come along and join in with any of these groups - you will be made most welcome.

In particular if you are at a loose end without a tee time or anyone to pair with be at the picnic table at 8.45am for the card draw ahead of the 9.06am tee time.  Everyone welcome, new members, juniors, visitors.  Just rock on up and join in.  You will always have someone interesting to play with and the banter in the club house is always a bit of fun.

As well as the Sunday Club Day this Sunday, we will also be playing the November Monthly Medal.  This is the last one before the Top Dog playoff in December to determine the golfer of the year.

3. Committee Members Needed

We need you.

That's right  - you.

No one else has the unique qualities you can bring to the committee table.

We are looking for competent women and men who are keen on their golf and wish to contribute their thoughts as to how the club and it's facilities can improve and progress.

There are a number of vacancies and of course all positions are up for election at the annual general meeting.

Shortly details of the Annual General Meeting accompanied with details of nomination forms will be available to all members.  So, come on, get involved.  We need all the help we can get.

4. Volunteers

Thank you to the volunteers who turned up last Thursday to help get the course tidied up before the City of Wellington.

All clubs need volunteers from time to time and there will be a call for more help very soon as we keep working to get on top of the rapid spring growth around the course.  There will be a couple of specific calls made for help very soon.  The course committee meets today and a plan for the next few weeks will be discussed.
