Congratulations to our Course Superintendent – TK, his wife Angeline and whanau who welcomed Radford on Friday 1st of September. Mum and baby are doing well. Dad says the baby is very chilled, unlike the other 2!!

Update on the new Greens Mower:

We have just been advised that we have been successful with our grant application for the new Greens Mower. NZCT awarded us $40,000 which is a huge contribution. Along with the amazing generosity of our members, we have raised another $11,348 (donations and raffles) A big thank you must go to Denise Marten who was responsible for preparing and managing the grant application. Thanks Denise. Also, once again, thanks to the members for their continued generosity.

The delivery date will be some time in October.

Weekly Update from Green Staff:

This week was a big preparation week for the green staff. They managed to get all the machinery ready for renovations as well as order the sand, seed, and fertilizer. This will help the greens recover from the impact of the coring. The coring will take place on the week of the 18th September and if all goes well, it will be completed within 4-5 days. Fingers crossed the weather holds out.

The Capital Kiwi Project  - update:

Following on from lasts week mention about Country Calendar and Terewhiti station, Paul and the team have sent us an update as follows:

Kia ora
An update on the mission for kiwi to whakakainga ano (make their homes again) in the wild on Wellington’s hills:

  1. Fourteen of the 63 birds (released in November and May) are being monitored weekly via transmitters. They are doing well: holding or putting on weight, with some now pairing up. Kiwi calls are being reported heard on the western edge of the city.

    2. Last week the project was the Supreme Award-winner at the 2023 Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards. The citation from The Mayor read:
“Capital Kiwi are so deserving of this Supreme Award, having really captured the heart of the nation and provided Wellingtonians with a sense of ownership and pride in the unprecedented success of this world-leading project.”

    3. On Sunday night the project was featured in a 'Country Calendar' episode on Terawhiti Station. It included the May welcoming of the kiwi at Makara Village Hall by iwi and locals, and their release beneath the manuka on Terawhiti. Watch on TVNZ+.

Nga mihi, thank you for your support

Paul, and the Capital Kiwi Project team

Once again, our clubs generosity has been acknowledged on Face Book by Cashmere School. The club donated a round of golf for 4 people and 2 carts in support of their school quiz night fund raiser. It is always great to support our local community.

RESULTS FOR THE WEEK:

Tuesday saw our competition head to the back 9 for a par competition.  We were lucky enough to be joined by Robyn in her last week. The winner was Loreen Brehaut on a countback from Trish Titcombe and Jane Campbell. Afterwards Jane thanked Robyn for her service to the Club and especially to the 9 Hole ladies players. We will miss her incredible abilities as a Club Manager. Thank you Robyn.

As most of you know, Sunday will be my final day as your Club Manager. It has been an absolute privilege to be a part of this club and to be able to lay the foundations to ensure the club moves in the right direction.

The start of my tenure was full of challenges, none more so than getting back out on the tools and using my green keeper knowledge through what was a difficult time for the club. I am sure you will not forget me trying to put a greens mower over the bank on the sixth!!

I will be sad not to be here for the delivery of the new Greens Mower but am proud that I was a part of the decision-making process in getting a new one. Maybe TK might call it Robyn Reliant in memory of me….hahahaha

To all the volunteers – a club like this does not survive without you all. And you are at the heart of what makes this club awesome. Thank you for everything you do and continue to do.

Debbie and Isaac, you are instrumental to the running of this club and a huge asset. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. I will miss you both greatly and have enjoyed working alongside you both immensely.

To the committee – thank you for your support and trust. We may not have always seen eye to eye on everything, but your commitment to this club is evident and I know you will continue to strive to do the best for the membership.

TK, William and Matt – this course is in great hands and I cant wait to see how it develops from here. I will be logging in from afar to see the progress you will make and enjoy coming to play on the course when I return on holidays.

And finally, to you the members – thank you for trusting me with your club. I know I have made some lifelong friendships and welcome you to keep in touch with me and if you ever find yourself in the UK, don’t forget to look me up. I am always up for a pint (or 3) at a good ole UK country pub. My personal email address is robynreliant@yahoo.co.nz if you would like to stay in touch. And when I come home for a holiday, I will be sure to come and visit.

I wish you all the very best for the future and thank you!!

Robyn
