Club Championships 2023

Good afternoon

You are receiving this message as you have been identified as being eligible for the Karori Golf Club Intermediate Club Championship.  It is likely that with handicap changes some of you may end up in the Junior A Championship but the message is the same.

The Club Championships are the Golf Club’s premier event in the golfing calendar.

There are two qualifying rounds which serve as the Stroke Play Championship. These rounds will be played on Sunday the 3rd and 10th of September, respectively. The top sixteen players in each division will qualify to play for the Club Championship which is match play off the stick.

In the past first round losers had completed their involvement in the competition but this year we will be holding a plate competition which will carry a prize for the winner. This will run in concert with the Club Championship.

Our Club Champions will receive a significant prize in the form of vouchers commensurate with the prestige the event commands. The Committee has agreed to underwrite the championship prize pool. To build the prize pool sponsors are being sought and I am pleased to announce that Gipps Street Deli have been the first to agree to contribute to this fund. More sponsors will be advised as they come on board. We would strongly encourage all our members to patronise Gipps Street Deli in recognition of their generous gift to us.

Entries will close on Thursday 31 August at 4pm sharp.

Handicaps will be frozen for club championship purposes on Monday 28 August.

Divisions will be determined on close of entries, but the Senior Division will not exceed a playing handicap off the blue tees of ten. It is however an open grade, and any club golfer may elect to qualify for the Senior Club Championship by advising the club at time of entry. All other divisions will be decided once numbers are known.

Seniors and Intermediates will play off the blue tees, the two junior divisions will play off the white tees. All finals will be thirty-six holes except for the Junior B final which will be eighteen holes played in the afternoon.

Our women members may enter the club championships under the same rules as the men.

Our mid-week members are invited to play too.

The timetable is this.

  1. Qualifying Rounds – Sunday September 3 & 10 (Strokeplay Champion(s))
  2. Match Play Rounds – Sundays, September 17, September 24, October 1, with the finals on October 8 (36 holes)
  3. Plate Rounds – September 24, October 1, and the finals on October 8. (36 holes)

All matches (excluding the final) may be played on or before the date. All finals must be played on the day. Any dispensation for a match will only be granted by the match committee in exceptional circumstances.

Tee times will be reserved by division for all matches.
