Dear Member

Another week, another coronavirus update. Remember when the sun shone and golf was all we had to worry about? Us neither!!

And still it is a matter of some pride just how well Karori Golf Club has come through this whole affair, and the superb condition the course is in.

Last week we asked members to thank the greenkeepers for their sterling efforts. It’s hard to remember the course looking better.

This week the greenkeepers are coming right back at the members. They’ve been cheered to see so many members out and about using the facilities they work so hard to provide.

Everyone likes to feel worthwhile, and your very presence makes them feel as if their effort hasn’t been wasted.

After the Government’s next announcement on Monday, the committee will evaluate what has been said and let you know all the implications for the club, and club members.

CHANGES, POST MAY 21

With the pubs opening again, without having to sell food, that means the same for the clubhouse you can now just buy alcohol, no need for that added sausage roll!

Of course, it’s always best to eat with alcohol to erode its effects on the body (and the driving, with the winding road).

We (the committee) recommend food is purchased whenever possible, to help the kitchen get back on its feet. As you know, these are tough times, and it’s no exception with the kitchen, so grab a toasted sandwich, some fries and other goodies. You know you want to.

CLUBHOUSE/KITCHEN HOURS

Monday: closed

Tuesday: open

Wednesday: open

Thursday: closed

Friday: open

Saturday and Sunday: open

Again a big thanks for both your patience when Karori Golf Club had to close, for sticking with the club, for obeying the rules at Level 3, and thanks in advance for obeying the rules at Level 2.

LOST GOLFER??

Karori Golf Club may have lost a lady member. There are fears she may have been swallowed up by quicksand on the 10th tee. Half of her driver is all that remains. Any clues?

LEVEL 2 rules, repeated, repeated, repeated

The club still has to observe social distancing, trace and track and washing cleaning protocols. The aim is to keep all club members safe so that the arrival of normal life is not delayed.

Sorry if you’ve already read them once, twice, three times, but they do bear repeating under our club obligations. Plus they’re really great rules, and we all love rules!!

CLUBHOUSE

The tables have been spaced for social distancing. Some have been removed. Please sit only with your playing group, no mingling.

There will be no food in the cabinet, the pie warmer is now in the kitchen, so you have to order food from the specially sanitised KGC staff.

Please use the sanitiser and hand wipes, as per the Government’s cleaning protocols.

Remember to book on DotGolf, and you can now enter your score on DotGolf, and laugh at (or admire) the scores of others. So much fun!

THE RULES

One GOOD THING, particularly if you’re a yippy putter:

  • for the sake of good health, GIMMES ARE ALLOWED - half the length of your putter shaft, not half the length of the green!

Flags -- look, admire, but don’t touch!!!

What’s open: on course toilets, clubroom, practice green, driving nets, driving range, cart access.

What’s closed: Drinking taps and ball washers, pitch n’putt course, hire clubs.

What’s open, but to be used sparingly: On course seats. Please keep touching these seats to a minimum, if at all .

HEALTH PROTOCOLS

Unwell players are not to come to the course. If you have a cold, sore throat, or a cough please think of others, and don’t come out.

Coughing is a sign of coronavirus, plus it can put golfers off those short but crucial putts. Stay home if you have a cough.

Wash, wash, wash: players should wash their hands regularly, particularly before and after their round. Hand wipes and sanitiser will be available in the toilets. Please wipe down all areas you have touched.

TRACKING PROTOCOLS

All players, members and green fee players must book online, or check in at the office, Don’t simply turn off and venture out on to the course. That’s illegal. When the office is unattended the players’ list will be located downstairs near the log in screen.

People who are in the clubhouse, but not playing, must also register, so we can track and trace.

SCORE CARDS

Cards can be obtained but not to be touched - marked or signed - by another player. Please wipe the computer screen after use.

Scores can be entered digitally using hands cleaning protocols. Scores can also be entered on the DotGolf scoring app.

CARTS

  • Clubs and carts stored at the club, can be used by one player only.

  • When retrieving these from storage please do not touch anyone else’s clubs trundler

  • Wipe down the key pad door handle after use.

  • Hire clubs will not be available, but golf carts can be hired.

  • Private carts should be restricted to just the one user under level 2.

ON THE COURSE

  • Tee times are 10 minutes apart. Groups must wait for the correct time to tee off, not simply fire away after the group in front has played their second shot.

  • Golfing groups must maintain their distance from each other. Hitting wild slices and hooks onto other fairways will therefore be frowned up!

  • Flagsticks will be on the course but don’t touch them - putt with the flagstick in. Short “gimme“ putts should be given.

  • Bunkers will be designated GUR  - they are not up to standard as yet. There will be no bunker rakes on the course

  • Could players please remember to replace divots and pitch marks

IN THE CLUBROOMS

  • Players must sit with those they played with, even if there’s been a rules dispute during the round, or someone is bitter about losing the haggle.

  • Tables will be “distanced” according to Government rules, please observe those rules.

  • Only one player to approach the bar area at a time. There will be social distancing marks on the floor, no more than three at a time in the line.

  • Only Eftpos will be accepted in the clubhouse  - no cash - please sanitize hands before and  after use. Sanitizer will be available.

  • Shop will be open, please do not touch any items you do not wish to purchase.
