Some welcome rain this week with a hint of more being predicted for this weekend, but probably not enough to worry your golfing aspirations.

Apologies to those of you who missed out on last week’s Friday Flash. Unfortunately a spam filter appears to have prevented it being received by members who have an xtra email account and with us hosting a wedding in the clubhouse we didn’t get a chance to resend it in a different format.

This Weekend’s Events

Tomorrow our men’s interclub teams are back in action, but our Mary Alward women’s team has a bye:

· Our Div 2 men are at home to Boulcott’s Farm

· Our Div 5 men are away to Ohariu

· Our Div 9 men are at home to Trentham

Best of luck to all our club representatives.

For non interclubbers, the Women’s Saturday club are playing LGU2/Putting2 and National Teams Qualifying Round. For men it is the 6th Round of the Autumn Cup with this round being played on a Par basis.

On Sunday morning it is the semifinal round of the Holland Cup, with the competition down to the last 4.

Sunday also happens to be St Patrick’s Day so in the spirit of the luck of the Irish, we will put up a 4 pack of Guinness for the player who scores the most stablefords on Sunday, male or female, off any tee, plus we will enter all the score cards into a random draw for the chance to win the same. No cost to enter but make sure you click on St Pat's Day Lucky Scramble when you print out your score card.

Course Closed Monday

On Monday we are hosting round 5 of the mid week women’s bronze pennants interclub competition so the course will be closed for other players until mid afternoon. Best of luck to our team who are playing Carterton.

Last Weekend’s Interclub Results

All our interclub teams were scheduled to be in action last Saturday but the weather got the better of some of them:

· Div 2 men were away to Shandon where they went down 11.5 to 3.5

· Div 5 men were at home to table toppers Martinborough, with whom they halved the match 7.5 each. Two of the points were scored by Keith Atkinson who was playing his 100th interclub game for Karori – well done Keith!

· Div 9 men were away to Trentham but all play was cancelled

· Our women’s Mary Alward interclub team were scheduled to play Miramar at home but due to the weather, have rescheduled it to the 11th May.

Upcoming Events

This month’s all members event is the Jubilee Cup tournament, to be played on Saturday 23 March. Last year we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the current Karori Golf Club’s incorporation (we are the 4th version) and next year we will be celebrating 50 years since the course was opened. The cup donated for last year’s anniversary tournament by the Quin family, whose father won it during the reign of the third Karori Golf Club, will again be up for grabs, along with other prizes, with the emphasis being on competitive fun. It will be a stableford competition, with men’s, women’s and 9 hole divisions. An entry sheet is on the notice board in the downstairs foyer along with the flyer.

On Friday 22 March we will be holding a sponsors’ ambrose tournament, which will require us to close the course from about 10am. Although primarily an opportunity for us to thank our sponsors, we expect there to be some room in the field for members to enter a team – if you are interested, let the club know – entry fee for non sponsors with be $10 per person, to cover the cost of the bbq, prizes, and the opportunity to win a Honda car for a hole-in-one on one of the holes. We will also be looking for helpers on the day, to help with the bbq, drinks cart, and spotters for the hole-in-one – please let the club know if you can help out.

Women’s Tuesday Club

The 8 hole midweek ladies played the back 9 on Tuesday. It was a pleasant day and good golfing conditions. We played a stableford. The winner on a count back was Kath Robinson from Jane Campbell both on 18 points with Connie Lee on 17 points.

The interclub team played Miramar at Otaki on Thursday with an excellent 3 1/2 to 1/2 win. Well done ladies!

Men’s Wednesday Club

It was a cloudy, overcast day with heavy rain during the night before. Consequently, we had a small crowd of only 23 players competing under the par format. Since we have a few players graduating from the 18 hole players to 9-hole players, we need new young blood to boost the membership. Luckily, we had a new member Marcus Henry who is potentially a regular player.

The winner is Chris Pearce with a great score of +6, runner up was Satish with +3 and Graeme Crocker with +2. Balls were distributed down to even scores. Chris had a gross score less than Keith's age but still above his age, so, he cannot win the prize of beating his own age yet. We had quite a few Two's: Mike Cox, Keith Gaskin and Don. The bunny prize went to Luke but he was too embarrassed to stay behind to accept the prize. Overall, we had a good, calm day in a very pleasant condition. So make sure you come out to join the Wednesday competitions because Makara weather is quite different from Karori.

The committee also wishes to acknowledge Keith Gaskin, John Markham and Chris Pearce in working tirelessly clearing the overgrown patches in the creeks so that we can find our lost balls more easily. So, thank you. Regards Victor

Team Yip Twilight Golf

There was another solid turnout at Twilight last night with 24 players demonstrating their range of skills. In what was probably a record round at Twilight, Jimmy Tie took out the top spot with 26 Stablefords but more importantly shooting a Gross 30 on the front 9! Peter Nichols won the NTP which was a great birthday present for him. Surprisingly, he shared his birthday with Isaiah Faletolu and Jack Whakatihi. All three were treated to a round of Happy Birthday and a cake (baked by Jo Hurst). Mike Suggate came 2nd on 25, Brigitte Boenisch-Brednich and Milo Faletolu came 3rd on 21, and Richard Reith and Wayne Cook rounded out the big money winners on 20. Four twos were won with Adrian Porter and Terry Bastion earning golf balls on #4 while Jimmy Tie scored 2s on #6 and #1! Most golf was played by Jo Hurst and Tim Brosnahan, Only 2 playing nights left to go!

Capital Kiwi Project

As part of the Capital Kiwi project, which aims to see the return of kiwi to the region’s bush areas, 11 stoat traps have been placed around the course. Care has been taken to position them where they are most likely to be effective, but without interfering with play or greenkeepers’ activities.
