They say you cant beat Wellington on a good day, and it certainly has been true for those of us lucky enough to have been able to get out onto our course this week, with beautiful weather complementing a fantastic course. This photo was taken by David Sercombe, playing with fellow 9 holers in the wake of the Wednesday Club 18 holers.

Please help keep the course looking its best by replacing or repairing divots (remember to take one of the new sand buckets with you when you tee off) and repairing pitch marks on the greens.

This Weekend’s Events

Tomorrow our women’s Saturday club are playing LGU8.

On Sunday, it is the quarter finals of the men’s match play championships, with all 4 divisions in full action, with many having enjoyed byes last weekend. Best of luck to those still alive in the competition.

Women’s Midweek Club

9 Hole Midweek Women

The 9 hole ladies enjoyed pleasant golfing conditions on Tuesday, playing the first round of their Club Championships. We were also treated to a lovely lunch from the new Tuesday caterer. Thank you very much Anita and welcome to the club.

Men’s Wednesday Club

Thirty members turned up for this week's competition in the best weather condition. It was sunny, warm and calm so we all enjoyed the game as reflected by the good scores of many players.

The champion of the day is David Ainsworth with a score of plus 4, and closely behind him is David Burton with a score of plus 3. John McDougall and David Norton shared the 3rd place with a score of plus 2. Three other players with the same score of plus 1 who took the fourth place are John Markham, Ian Patience and Graham Presland.

Graham had a great day winning the NTP, scored a two so he ended the day with three prizes.

For raffles, Pete McMillan won the top prize, followed by Peter Wilcox and Trevor Brown.

With the continuing good weather, all members are welcome to take part in our casual Friday group. We often tee off at 9:30 and a disc draw will be carried out to assign players to different groups.

Twilight Golf

Daylight saving starts at the end of the month – less than 10 days away! – and with it will be the return of our popular Thursday evening Twilight Golf. We start on Thursday 4th October, with similar format to previous summers of a social 9 holes of golf followed by a bbq dinner. All members, friends and visitors are welcome – start blocking out your Thursday evenings now.

Open Day

Plans are well advanced for the Open Day we intend holding on Sunday 14th October, and the Sponsors Tournament scheduled for Friday 12th. The intention of the Open Day (see attached flyer) is to invite residents within our catchment area to come out to the course and give golf a go. We expect most of the activity will be on the Pitch and Putt course, but we will be opening up our main course for free play from 10am. Part of the PnP course will be used for the fun SNAG (Someone New At Golf) equipment that Wellington Golf will be lending us for the day. Full details will be finalised at our committee meeting next Monday following which we will call for volunteers to help deliver leaflets as well as help out on the day and at a mini working bee earlier that week so that we can present our facilities at their best. Meanwhile, if you know of someone who you think might be interested in giving golf a go, please let them know about the Open Day.

Coaching

Want to share your love for the game with new golfers? Have you ever thought about getting involved in coaching? Wellington Golf have a range of coaching resources available to aspiring new coaches – see the attached flyer which is also on our notice board in the downstairs foyer.

Sponsor Speak

Prodrive have been our headline sponsors for a number of years now, including sponsorship of our 4th hole. Their shop is now based at their driving range at Silverstream, just as you come off the motorway so very easy to get to. In addition to a well stocked shop and plenty of booths from which to practice your golf, they also have a resident coach - Matthew Lane, a former PGA Tour professional and winner of the 1998 NZ Open - to help fix any issues you may be having with your swing or parts of your game. Whatever your golfing requirement, Prodrive are the place to go.

Happy golfing, play safely,

Your KGC Committee
