We are now into Awesome August – horses are one year older and courses that have been well maintained, like ours, are providing great winter golfing conditions. We don’t have any special events programmed for this month, but members should be starting to hone their golfing skills for the Club Championships which start the first weekend in September.

This Weekend’s Events

Tomorrow our women’s Saturday club are playing Medley 10 which is played on a stableford basis. For those men who qualified for the Westward Ho it is the first knock out round which is played off the white tees on a match play on handicap format. The first group tee off at 10.02, with the draw based on seedings determined by the order of finalists’ position in the qualifying round. All finalists should have received a copy of the draw by email earlier this week.

Westward Ho Qualification Event

Great to see a field of 24 enjoying fantastic golfing conditions last Saturday and perfect weather in a genuine competition for places and seedings in the knockout rounds of the Westward Ho! Shield. Top qualifier was Jono Wake with a net 61 followed by Kevin Norquay with net 65. Michael Weaver and Graham Black also finished with net scores below 70. Twos were scored by Alex Lim on the 4th and Keith Gaskin on the 6th. Best of luck to all qualifiers for tomorrow’s knock out matches.

Women’s Midweek Club

9 Hole Midweek Women

Even though the day was really cold, the 9 hole ladies enjoyed playing a revised version of Odds and Evens on Tuesday. Our winners were Chris Suggate on 25, closely followed by Julie Wilcox, Marion Thompson and Alison Robertson on 26.

Men’s Wednesday Club

Despite a sunny wintry day in calm condition, only 26 players turned up for the regular Wednesday club competition. The scores were reasonable even though the greens are wet and quick. The winner of the day is Saint Kennach with a score of 39 stableford points, runner up on count back is Tim Allison and Peter Kennedy, both with 38 points. Balls were distributed down to 35: for Gerd Warnke and Fergus McLean on 36, Luke and Pete McMillan on 35. Nearest to the Pin prize went to a new Wednesday member, Alan Thomson but he did not make the putt so donated to the Piggy Fund. Only one player scored a two, Gerd. The Bunny prize went to the first time winner: Victor Diem who had a good excuse for attending the 7:00 am Breakfast meeting of the Karori Rotary Club.

For raffles, Chris Pearce won the first prize but he did not play so was not qualified for any competition prize. Other winners are Dick Adam and Graeme Crocker. Martin Leung won the wine raffle for being a persistent buyer.

I hope more members support the wine raffle which is the main income source to build up the reserve funds of the group.

Overall, again, all members had a good fun day which several players told me that this is the highlight of their week.

Today, I met up with Kevin Corrin, a regular Wednesday club member and an active participant of the Wellington Seniors group. He's been away for a long period of time but hopefully will play again in the near future. Victor Diem

New Rules Take Effect 1/1/2019

NZ Golf are preparing a range of materials to help clubs and their members transition to the new rules that take effect from the start of next year, designed to simplify and speed up the game. We will circulate these as they become available but in the meantime, members are encouraged to check out the following website:

https://www.rules.golf/

Email Issues

We are still having issues with gmail blocking our all members emails and have been getting round this by breaking our email address list down into smaller subsets. Unfortunately it came to light earlier this week that in doing so we had inadvertently overlooked some members so apologies if you haven't received the FF for the past couple of weeks. If ever you dont receive it and wish to check it out, it does get uploaded onto our website on our Members page, plus there is a link to it on our front page which enables you to access it without logging in.

New Sponsors Signs

Committee member Erich Bucher is currently renewing our sponsors and you may have noticed some new signs appearing on the course, including:

· The Milne Glass signs on Hole 9

· The Speedy Signs sign on Hole 14

· The updated New World sign on Hole 16

Members are encouraged to support our sponsors and if you would like to sponsor a hole, or know of someone who would like, please let the club know.

We will feature the signs in issues of the FF, starting today with the Milne Glass sign on the 9th tee:

Deane Milne is a member of the club and also has this sign at the bottom of the path leading up to the 9th tee and at the back of the 9th green. If you need a broken window repaired, he is the man to call on 0800-945-277

Happy golfing, play safely,

Your KGC Committee
