Another month is almost over, but the golf goes on regardless.

This Weekend’s Events

Tomorrow our women’s Saturday club are playing Odds and Evens, while for men members it is the qualifying round for the Westward Ho. This is played off the white tees with the top 16 entrants with the best net scores qualifying for the knockout rounds which begin next Saturday. The knockout rounds are played match play on handicap, off the white tees. If you haven’t already entered, please ring/email the club before 4pm this afternoon so that a draw for tomorrow’s qualifying round can be made this evening. The first foursome will tee off at 10.02 tomorrow.

Recent Results

Last Saturday our men members competed for the July Monthly Medal. The winner of the blue division was Erich Bucher with net 76, and the winner of the white division was Antony Kennedy with net 78. Congratulations Erich and Antony, you now qualify for the Top Dog playoff on 8 December.

Women’s Midweek Club

9 Hole Midweek Women

As Tuesday was one of the coldest days of the winter, the 9 hole ladies opted to play on Thursday instead. We were treated to blue skies and not much wind.

We had a good turnout and we played a Nett game for our Medley competition.

The winner was Lindsey Pickering on nett 37, 2nd was Trish Titcombe on a countback from Kath Robinson, both on nett 38.

Men’s Wednesday Club

It was another fine, cold but calm day and all conditions were perfect for an enjoyable golfing day. However, we had only 28 members who turned up to take advantage of an excellent golf course despite heavy rains in the preceding days.

The winner of the par competition is the regular leaderboard of Wellington Seniors Tournaments, Rob Ashby with an incredible score of +7. He has a handicap of 18 and is from Mornington Golf club. There is something seriously wrong with the handicap system because he obviously plays well below 18. The runner up is Peter Kennedy who continued his good form on Monday with a score of +4 and the third runner up is Graham Black with +3. The balls were distributed to Pete McMillen and Mark Noblett with +1 and all squares were achieved by Ian Bates, Paul Hawkes, Saint Kennach, Graham Presland and Patrick Cordue. As usual, Victor Diem missed out the competition prize.

NTP was won by Rob but he missed the putt so had to donate the piggy fund. Trevor Brown was the only one with a Two on hole no. 13 and Bunny prize went to our former club President, Geoff Lee.

For raffle prizes, the first one went to Rob Ashby again, Satish Chandra got the second prize and the third prize went to Keith Gaskin. For the wine raffle, again it went to someone outside the committee: Paul Hawkes.

So, it was another enjoyable day for all and we hope more members find time to come and join our regular Wednesday competitions to have a chance mixing with other members on a casual and social basis. If you miss it on Wednesdays, you are welcome to join our regular Friday Club group with a fixed tee off time at 9:30 am every Friday.

Hole-in-One

Congratulations to Dominic Milicich who aced the 13th hole yesterday while playing a round with Gerry Verhaart and Paul Williams. Using an 8 iron off the white tees, Dominic's ball landed within a foot of the hole and spun back into it - just like you see the pros do on the PGA tour! Congratulations Dominic.

New Mowers

Our new surrounds and fairway mowers were delivered yesterday and today a representative from Power Turf is commissioning them with our green keepers. We can now return the borrowed surrounds mower that we have been using for the past 3 months, and thank Power Turf for this loan. We can also relegate the second hand fairway mower we bought a few months ago with the Wednesday Club donation to its intended back up duties, giving us the confidence to be always able to present our fairways in tip top condition (weather permitting).
