First day of winter, but a long weekend to help forestay the onset of winter blues. For those of you not going away, tomorrow looks like having the best weather for golf. We aim to have the club house open all days of the long weekend but with both Sunday and Monday forecast to be wet we may review this.

This Weekend’s Events

Tomorrow winter points start for the women and their Saturday Club will be playing Nett. No events have been programmed for the men for the weekend. We were going to play the qualification round for the Bertram Cup on Sunday but with less than 16 pairs entered, they all qualify so the round would serve only as a seeding round. Instead the first round matchups, to be played on or before Sunday 10thJune, will be determined by a random draw.

Next Week - Mini Tines and Dot Golf Outage

Matt was hoping to mini tine and sand the greens on Monday but with the first half of the week rained out, he has postponed this to next week. The greens should be affected for only about a week.

Also, we have been advised that Dot Golf, who administer the handicapping and card printing systems, will be going offline for scheduled maintenance from 9pm Monday night until 6am Tuesday morning. If this work takes longer than expected, it is possible that their restart could be delayed, in which case it may not be possible to print out cards on Tuesday morning. We will therefore ensure there are sufficient blank cards on the table in the downstairs foyer for the Tuesday Women’s Club as a precaution.

Recent Results

What a great day it was last Saturday for the Argentina National Day Tournament hosted by the Argentinian Ambassador, Fausto Lopez Crozet. After several wet and cold days the weather cleared up just in time for the midday tee off for the field of around 50, made up of members of the diplomatic community and KGC members. Despite the rain earlier in the week, the course as usual was presented in great condition and it was Fausto himself who topped the leader board with 39 stableford points. However, rather than award the cup and prize to himself, the trophy went to the next highest scorer, club member Simon O’Shaughnessy with 36 points, on count back from Satish Chandra, with Theo Kuper a further point back on 35. Players enjoyed a selection of finger food after play prepared by Sara, including Argentinian empanadas, and accompanied by Argentinian wines. Thanks Fausto for hosting this event on our course – hopefully it will be repeated again next year.

Women’s Midweek Club

9 Hole Midweek Women

Tuesday's weather was too cold, wet and miserable for us so our competition was postponed until Thursday. 9 players turned up to compete in the putting competition. The winner was Connie Lee with 14 putts, 2nd was Chris Suggate with 15 putts and 3rd was Kath Robinson with 16 putts. Well done all.

18 Hole Midweek Women

Owing to the weather there has been no golf this week.

Our Pennants interclub team was to play Martinborough at Masterton on Monday.

The team ventured over the Hill on Sunday in preparation only for the postponement message to come through early on Monday morning.

We now have three more rounds to be played before the end of June.

For some reason we seem to be the only Interclub Division still playing!

Golf was also postponed on Tuesday at the Club so a disappointing week all round.

Men’s Wednesday Club

No report from the Wednesday clubbers but the Dot Golf results show that this week’s event, played by a field of 28 on a Par basis, was won by Ian Bates with +2, pipping Peter Kennedy and visitor Graeme Lee from Piopio who were both on +1. Twos were scored by David Ainsworth and Pat Cordue, both on Hole 13, proving that David’s nearest-the-pin in the Argentinian Tournament was no fluke.

Shootout

At the end of each year we have a shootout between the top 19 men gunslingers from the year, which involves them all teeing off together on the first tee and one player being eliminated each hole, to leave 2 left to shoot it out on the 18th. A lesser number for the women shooters do the same, therefore starting on a later hole, but again with 2 left on the 18th. To be eligible for one of the starting slots, Wyatt Earp pretenders need to enter 15 shootout rounds during the year by selecting the shootout option when printing their scorecard and paying the $2 per round entry fee, which all gets returned as prize money on the day of the ultimate shootout, which this year will be Sunday 2 December. For the Annie Oakleys only 10 rounds are required to qualify, and an entry fee is paid at the start of the year, rather than on a round by round basis. Qualification rounds are scored on a net basis, with the top 19 with the 15 best net totals qualifying for the final shootout. A summary of the rounds played to date is attached – whilst there is plenty of time to complete the required number of rounds, don’t forget that matchplay rounds, such as the Bertram Cup and the Club Champs, where holes can be conceded without putting out, cannot count as a net score.
